History - the end of Booth School

The last years of the school and the issues that led to its closing need to be discussed in the article. It seems that there was some parental dissatisfaction and apparently also problematic attitudes about race (if not outright racism) in the school administration? --A12n 19:10, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

External link to Booth alumni Yahoogroup

I reverted the deletion of this link in the hopes of getting some discussion on it. I took a quick look at the several references and do recognize Wikipedia's concern with various issues relating to links. However in this case I think the merit of such a link, and its nature, outweighs the concerns as I understand them. Booth was closed 3 decades ago - there is no alumni association that any of us are aware of, and such a list is about as close as we'll get to a formal organization or even website. IOW, it's the only external link possible, and its content is appropriate. Now, if Wikipedia actually has a hard & fast rule that no Yahoogroup shall ever be linked to any Wikipedia article, then that's a debate on another level. --A12n 23:48, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Booth School and Racism

I attended the Booth School for one year, 1966-67, in third grade. At that time, black children were not allowed to attend the school; at least that's what I was told.--Lauren D. McKinney (talk) 18:13, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Lauren. My folks transfered me and my sister out in '66 (after grade 4), but I never had a clear sense of what the school admin did in this regard or said to rationalize it, nor for that matter whether it was ever resolved before the school closed or what role it had in the school's closing. It's not an easy topic but needs to be exposed frankly as a part of history.--A12n (talk) 14:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Restructured article

I just rearranged some things with some new topic headings and subheadings. Hopefully this is more clear and will facilitate additional edits - there's a lot to say on the history, and some of it (per the above) not easy or uncontroversial. I included mention of the Yahoogroup (which someone else recently added and then another person just deleted) in the context of the lack of records and the informal alumni group. Hopefully anyone researching the article will see the mentions on the talk page (until they're deleted too) and follow up interested. --A12n (talk) 14:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
