Am I the only one who thinks that this is going to need to be expanded soon? With the release of their album imminent, Bloom 06 redirecting to Eiffel 65 without a mention of why untill seven paragraphs down kind of seems inappropriate. EmoDeathMachine 04:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proposed article deletion by Qwyrxian edit

"Article does not include any reliable sources; all sources are to links on the band's own website.". What an odd reason for deletion. There are hardly any other sources and everything that needs to be sourced is covered by the official website. What else would you like to be sourced? --ChrisHamburg (talk) 05:43, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

The general notability guidelines require that, in order to prove a subject is notable, that subject must have been covered in reliable, independent sources. A band's own home page does not qualify, as that is a self-published source.
However, music groups are often evaluated under the particular guidelines found in WP:MUSIC. I'll put them here for reference:
  1. Has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician or ensemble itself and reliable.[note 1]
    1. This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries[note 2] except for the following:
      1. Any reprints of press releases, other publications where the musician or ensemble talks about themselves, and all advertising that mentions the musician or ensemble, including manufacturers' advertising.[note 3]
      2. Works comprising merely trivial coverage, such as articles that simply report performance dates, release information or track listings, or the publications of contact and booking details in directories.
      3. Articles in a school or university newspaper (or similar) would generally be considered trivial but should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Has had a single or album on any country's national music chart.
  3. Has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country.
  4. Has received non-trivial coverage in a reliable source of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country.[note 4]
  5. Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable).
  6. Is an ensemble which contains two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a member of two or more independently notable ensembles.
  7. Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability.
Now, Bloom 06 may well meet one or more of these criteria. Reading the information posted in the article, I'm not seeing that they do; but if you could point out for me how they do, along with sources to prove that they meet that criteria, then the page would not be subject to deletion. 1. Has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award.
  2. Has won or placed in a major music competition.
  3. Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article.)
  4. Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.
  5. Has been the subject of a half-hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network.
So, you need to demonstrate that Bloom 06 qualifies under one or more of these criteria.
Thanks for answering the question yourself by posting the criteria. As you can see from the article, they released two albums and two EPs on EDEL records and Universal Music (major labels), even in four countries. Their first two singles hit the Italian single charts (#46 and #49, unfortunately temporarily not verifiable), their collaboration with Pandora even hit #7 @ Swedish single charts [1]. Their music was played on sunshine live as well as Radio DeeJay and Radio 105 Network ([2]). The duo consists of Maurizio Lobina and Gianfranco Randone (both notable musicians and already featured on Wikipedia). --ChrisHamburg (talk) 15:02, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification, I believe you are correct that the band meets notability requirements, based primarily on the releases with major record labels and the placement on the charts. The article does, though, need reliable sources documenting these facts. Furthermore, a band's website is never reliable, as it is not vetted by any editorial staff or similar process to verify the information's accuracy (just like if I posted a website about myself and claimed I was notable, that wouldn't be sufficient). So that link to the Swiss charts should be added somewhere, a link to the Italian charts if it ever becomes available, and any independent press information would be good as well.
