Film Adaptation edit

This is NOT a film adaptation of the musical. Hairspray 2007 is a film adaptation of the musical show. So is The Producers. Chicago. Phantom of the Opera. This is purely an as-live filmed production of the stage show. "The Sound of Music Live" is much closer to a film adaptation than Billy Elliot The Musical Live is. Purely because in The Sound of Music Live, and a year later Peter Pan Live. They were purposely made for television viewing. They had their own sets build, script changes. Based on the musical shows, but made for TV. Billy Elliot the Musical Live is not this. It is an as-live filmed production of the musical. It is exactly how it is in the theatre, except there being cameras to record the event. Saying this is a film adaptation is wrong. Because there was no change. What it was, was a filmed version of the musical which itself was an adaptation of the year 2000 movie. Saying this is a film adaptation is like saying the National Theatre Live are all adaptations. Even though they are all live or as-live filmed versions of the exact plays being shown in the theatre. Same goes for Danny Boyle's Frankenstein. That was a play adaptation of the book, but National Theatre Live filmed it and it was screened in cinemas. Also the last performance of Monty Python Live. It was not an adaptation for the cinema. It was the comedy show at the O2, and filmed, and broadcast to cinemas around the world. This does not make it an adaptation. If Billy Elliot the Musical ever gets a Hairspray/Producer movie (normal film - musical show - musical film) then that would be a film adaptation because there will be differences from stage to screen. This is not. The closest thing of this being an 'adaptation' is if you argue it is not how you view the stage show, because you did not imagine it like the camera angles show. Or even the multiple Billy dance at the end. That was there to celebrate the nine year anniversary. Even if it was not filmed and broadcast in cinemas, that dance still would have happened. But that would not have meaner it was a separate musical of Billy Elliot, purely a special event in the end. 92.237.149.249 (talk) 07:05, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Categories edit

I note that this included in Category:Films set in London, but not Category:Films set in County Durham. In contrast the article for Billy Elliot is the other way round. Would it be best to include both in both categories for consistency? Dunarc (talk) 23:53, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
