Whoever wrote the plot summary for all this, I'm impressed and grateful. Either you played through the whole game or bought an Ultimania something or other or whatever, in any case, I tried the game and decided it was tedious but still wanted the story information (the Crisis Core scene reference was a treat). Thanks. If anyone is thinking of deleting it under the guideline that Wikipedia is not for long plot summaries, I hope that it remains up under the justification that it's not an easily obtained item for native English speakers. --58.87.137.189 (talk) 11:00, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

New Turks, Multi-Carrier Release

Updated with the new Turks and the logos and info for the EZweb and Yahoo!Keetai versions of Before Crisis that were announced at TGS. Also corrected the glaring mistake that Before Crisis was released for the FOMA 900i series, as the game works perfectly fine on about 20 other FOMA i-Mode camera phones which aren't in the 90X series at all. Official names

Now that the game's been shown in English at E3 and some people have played the demo, we know a couple official English names. Veld (aka Verd) is now officially named Verdot. French. Like the wine. Images problem

I'm a little bit concerned that we may be including too many images vis-a-vis fair use criteria (and specifically, under WP:PJFF guidelines, which limit us to 15 fair use images per article, IIRC). I don't wanna delete them all out-of-hand, but I'm worried that if we don't do something to fix this, someone else will.... – Seancdaug 05:47, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Go for it. The portraits (better even then the screencaps and stuff on the wiki) are all relatively easy to find anyway, if you know where to look. The one for Vincent isn't even from Before Crisis, it's from Ehgeiz. Vincent doesn't even wear a Turks uniform in BC. WtW-Suzaku 18:58, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

I've made a few minor (?) changes to the Before Crisis Turks section, changing the character names to their proper format, which is actually in Before Crisis. I also edited the ordering, so that they fall into the proper order given in the game, official sources, and just about every single Japanese website about the game. Also edited "chapter" into "Episode", which is used on the official site, and put chapter titles into parenthesis.

For referance, the official ordering is always "male, female, male female...", with the first two characters having been available since the beta, the second two since the first Episode , the next two since Episode 8, and the final two since Episode 18. I still listed the less often, unofficial (Character A, Character B) titles, though.

Removed the referance to Rod's weapon being an "Electro-Mag Rod", because it just isn't. It's simply a "Rod", which can later be replaced by the stronger "Pierce Rod" and "Light Rod". Any elemental properties that are attatched to it are defined by the materia equipped to it, just like with any of the weapons in Before Crisis. In fact, it's entirely questionable that Reno's weapon is even an "Electro-Mag Rod", as that's simply the name of an attack he uses.

Re-ordered them, to fall in line with the official "ordering", in which they are always listed male, female, male, female. This is the order that they are listed in the games, on the official website, and in just about every other Japanese website I've seen them in. I also removed further references to "Female A", or "Character B", etc., as those are not official, and are just a way that some fans choose to keep track of them.

Lastly, I renamed "Turk (Fencing)" to the far more accurate "Katana", as he's LITERALLY called 刀(男), or "Katana (Male)". I also changed "fencer" to the more accurate "swordsman", as he practices neither kendo or fencing. It's important to note the that he uses a Japanese katana, as opposed to a European type of sword. Accent mark on Elfe?

Does 'Elfe' actually have an accent mark over the 'e'? The only place I've seen it used is unofficially, on the adventchildren.net forums. Can someone verify this for me? -Elena 05:12, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Her name has never been romanized officially. However, the proper pronunciation is how it would be pronounced with an accent mark. Just like "Namine" in Kingdom Hearts, which was romanized by SE as Naminé. As a result, it's probably a good idea to accent Elfe as well. Don't want people thinking it's pronounced "Elf", now, do we? Moved titles from hyphons to colons for subtitles

For the following reasons:

• The use of hyphons, dashes, tildes, etc. is a non-standard English practice of handling subtitles. It is a Japanese practice. This is the English Wikipedia, and MOS states to follow common English grammar. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks): "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment".
• The above phrase of "even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment" invalidates whatever Square "officially" uses since it's not normal.
• Pretty much everyone who's not an otaku fanboy (not that's anything wrong with that) uses colons for these titles. IGN is just one example, but there's plenty where that came from.
• Here's the kicker: there's not even any hyphon/dashes in the logos. Since it's not even replicating that, it makes it pure Japanese-English.

I am quite confident that my moves support Wiki guidelines, and I also know that at least one other user supports such moves (User:Kariteh) but I suggest that anyone who feels strongly enough otherwise to strike up a survey and we can debate it. --SeizureDog 16:02, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Since I don't like moving things twice, I would ask that if a fourth person (me, User:Kariteh, User:Quarl) being three) also agrees that they please move the page back to the colon title. If a second person aside from User:Axem Titanium (or Axem) disagrees, then I ask for them to please explain how they feel the dashed titled follows MOS guidelines and should be kept. Shizune or playable turk?

What should we name the turk with the shuriken? When I was looking at the history there was a edit "war" on naming the turk shizune or just playable turk. Recently her name has been confirmed as shizune from a square enix party. What should we do? -ScotchMB 03:28, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is written with an out of universe perspective. Don't forget that this character is a fictional character, it's not a real person (surprisingly enough...). We must deal with each game as a fiction, not treat it like it's real stuff. Her name has been confirmed to be Shizune in Crisis Core? That makes her name Shizune in Crisis Core. But that does not change the fact that her name was "Shuriken (female)" in Before Crisis. When dealing with Before Crisis, we must use the name Shuriken (female). Kariteh 08:10, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Shuriken (Female)

Concerning Shuriken (Female), I think she should be referred to as such within this article rather than Shisune (her name as given for Crisis Core). Shuriken (Female) is how she's referred to in Before Crisis; actually, the player would give her a name, but that's how she's listed on official materials for Before Crisis.

"AVALANCHE"

The instruction manual/booklet/whatever from the North American release of DIRGE of CERBERUS -FINAL FANTASY VII- refers to FFVII's friendly neighborhood terrorist group as "Avalanche", in normal CAPS. I can understand the main FFVII article using the ALL-CAPS as shown in the most recent English version of that game, but I feel that the modern format for the group, in either and both of its incarnations, should be used within other FFVII-related articles. Hi ProtoDrake, the article has some small issues that should be easy to fix. The main issue I had with the article is the fact that it sometimes assumes that the general reader is familiarized with the Final Fantasy series, but other than that it is a fairly solid article. --Niwi3 (talk) 18:34, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

General

• This is not a big issue, but calling Final Fantasy VII simply VII is a bit confusing for me (not to mention for the general reader) as sometimes I'm not sure whether it is referring to the actual game or the whole compilation. Also, "Final Fantasy VII" is not a long name, so I don't see the point of simplifying it further.

Lead

• Action role-playing should be wikilinked.
• The sentence that includes release dates and platforms should be simplified to increase accessibility. I would recommend to replace the sentence with the following: "...video game developed by Square Enix and originally released for the FOMA mobile service on September 24, 2004. It was later released for SoftBank Mobile and EZweb in 2007."
• "Before Crisis is a prequel to the 1997 video game Final Fantasy VII, and forms part of the..." -- No comma needed; it breaks the flow of the prose.
• "It takes place six years prior to the events of VII, and focuses on the adventures" -- Again, no comma needed.
• "Before Crisis, the second title created for the Compilation, was developed by Square Enix as a gameplay and multiplayer experience unique to mobile devices. The company's first original Final Fantasy title for mobiles, it was directed by Hajime Tabata as his first major for Square Enix. The initial concept was created by him at the request of Tetsuya Nomura for a game that had the Turks as protagonists" -- Too many intricate details: No need to repeat again the fact that the game was developed by Square Enix. • "The music was composed by Takeharu Ishimoto, originally a sound arranger at the company." -- Replace the company with Square Enix.

Gameplay

• "Before Crisis is a real-time action role-playing game. The game uses 2D graphics as the player moves along in a side-scrolling manner." -- Action role-playing should be wikilinked. Also, these two sentences can be merged so that the prose flows better: "Before Crisis is a real-time action role-playing game featuring 2D graphics as the player moves along in a side-scrolling manner."
• "Free Mode allows players to roam the town and speak with the townspeople." -- What town?
• "Players can also play extra missions to gain Experience points (XP) and items, some of which are exclusive to Free Mode" -- The acronym (XP) is unnecessary.
• "For example, a dark green picture results in a Bio Materia, a blue picture results in a Cure Materia, etc." -> "For example, a dark green picture results in a Bio Materia, while a blue picture results in a Cure Materia." (Don't forget to remove the etc bit).
• "Rank Points (RP) are awarded during the completion of objectives in all three modes of play. After a certain amount of RP has been acquired, special bonuses are..." -- No need to abbreviate Rank Points because the acronym only appears once more.
• "'Easy Mode' came in 2006. In 'Easy Mode', the player has the ability to auto-evade incoming attacks and reduce damage taken. 'Hard Mode', added in 2007 and meant for advanced users, increases the damage dealt by enemy attacks." -> "'Easy Mode' was released in 2006 and allows the player to auto-evade incoming attacks and reduce damage taken, while 'Hard Mode', released in 2007 and meant for advanced users, increases the damage dealt by enemy attacks."

Plot

• The plot section should be renamed as "Synopsis" and the story subsection should be renamed as "Plot".

Development

• "While the second title created for the series, it was the first to be released when Advent Children was delayed during post-production." -> "Although Before Crisis is the second title created for the series, it was the first to be released because Advent Children was delayed during post-production."
• In the sentence "The game's release in the west was announced at the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo", you should add the acronym (E3) because it will be used later in the reception section.

Reception

• "Massimilla praised the animation as 'smooth'..." -> "Massimilla praised the smooth animations..."
• "Additionally, she thought the demo phone's vibrating function, set off when the player receives a call from Tseng, 'was a really nice touch.'" -- To reduce the number of small quotes, I would replace the quote "was a really nice touch" with "was a subtle detail".
