It was the first battle of the Mexican-American War fought in California. edit

This line makes no sense.
how can this be the first battle in the Mexican-American war fought in California if there were no American troops there?

Not the only skirmish with casualties, see battle of Natividad 16 November 1846 edit

After July 9, 1846 there was no further California Republic. The Battle of Natividad occurred during the American campaign in California that began following the definitive word obtained in August, 1846, that the Mexican-American War had begun. No, its an WP:Original work and also really doesn't depict anything of value to the article. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 15:47, 6 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
