Was this really a victory? edit

The contemporary source says that the Ottomans tried a flanking maneuver, but it was defeated by Italian reinforcements. 96.52.16.187 (talk) 21:11, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

They tried a flanking maneuver, but were frustrated by timely Italian reinforcements and driven off. At best this sounds inconclusive. At worst, it sounds like the Italians won by tradition, seeing as they maintained control of the field when the engagement ended. Unfortunately, I don’t speak Italian or Turkish, so I can’t comment on sources from either of these two nations. I’m just an interested English Canadian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.52.16.187 (talk) 09:43, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I have read Michael Embree's Radetzky's Marches: The Campaigns of 1848 and 1849 in Upper Italy, the wounded being rescued by Piedmont Sanitory Corps from the battle of Novara were initially 2500 and later revisied to 3008 being admitted to hospitals after the battle (Austrian about 1801, totalled about 1855 in his book), and the losses for the losing side (Sardinian) are very difficult to calculate for the total 9 hours of fighting(the missing and captured, and the dead that were buried by Austrian sides were uncounted including very large number of stragglers that were missing or captured). His book was balanced and neutral without favoring either sides, has taken from many and varied sources, including a considerable number of contemporary and first-hand accounts, as well official reports from all sides. I am suprised it wasn't used for Novara page here. 2604:3D09:D07F:E580:0:0:0:796A (talk) 22:15, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
