This article should definitely be merged with Brassicales. The order Batales is not recognized in the APG II classification. All of the molecular phylogenetic studies give strong statistical support to the Brassicales clade as defined by APG II and they show that Bataceae and Gyrostemonaceae are deeply embedded, rather than basal in Brassicales. Batales should be considered a defunct order, but is recent enough to be included in a brief taxonomic history of Brassicales.
