General Information

A limited article created. Info on early life and positions still needs to be added. There are a plethora of news articles on the individual so it shouldn't be too hard to find information to add to the page. Blueman33 (talk) 16:18, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Harriet Miers information is included because said individual received significant national media coverage during Miers's nomination to the Supreme Court. One of the reasons her nomination was controversial was because of her conservative Christian views -- said individual was her minister and made several statements about the nomination that appeared in national media. Harriet Miers Controversy

Single Purpose User TruTelr (talk) appears convinced that all of the references naming McCarty as Harriet Miers's minister in 2005 are incorrect. Does anyone have any evidence to corroborate this? If not, the information should stay. I don't have any such evidence but am posting this because TruTelr (talk) refuses to discuss the issue here and would rather repeatedly delete sourced information.

Also, I don't think it's productive to keep adding and deleting the word amazing when referring to McCarty's books. Blueman33 (talk) 08:16, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

OK, a few important things:

1. This is a biography of a living person, and so poorly sourced controversial information needs to be deleted on sight.
2. The referenced article in question is by Lauren Winner, whom I can confidently say is a reliable source.
3. "Notoriety" is definitely a word to avoid.
4. The debate seems to center around whether we can describe McCarty as "Miers' minister". Winner does not say this, and nor should we. The best we can do is say that "McCarty received media attention as the minister of the church that Miers attended," or something like that. StAnselm (talk) 00:13, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Church affiliation

The opening line of the article reads: "C. Barry McCarty is an American preacher and current senior pastor of the historic Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta. He is primarily associated with the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ, which is part of the Restoration Movement.[1]" That is true, however, Peachtree Christian Church where McCarty currently serves as senior pastor is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and McCarty has clergy standing as an ordained minister in that denomination. Perhaps a fuller statement might read that "He is primarily associated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ, which are part of the Restoration Movement." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barrymccarty (talk • contribs) 17:57, 24 June 2011‎ (UTC)
