  • Not "recent", per WP:DYKHOOK: "The hook should include a definite fact that is unlikely to change". Try "March 2024" instead. Otherwise, nice article (although I'm not quite sure how comfortable I am actually reviewing this, given I'm the one that put the hook there!)--Launchballer 08:31, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
    Amended hook. Marshelec (talk) 08:49, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Full review needed.--Launchballer 08:51, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I'm really sorry to be so anal about this, but there is an outside chance there could be more than one this year, so it should really give the month.--Launchballer 09:21, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I understand the requirement, and could add the month, but in this case I believe the year is sufficient. As a member of the affiliate that organised the Wikicon, I know that this was the annual Wikicon - ie the only one for 2024. The next one is planned to be in Christchurch in 2025. See m:wiki/Wikimedia_Aotearoa_New_Zealand#Activity:_Annual_National_WikiConference for verification.Marshelec (talk) 06:38, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. Full review needed.--Launchballer 07:57, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
BlueMoonset This is the oldest fully unreviewed nom. Given that I put that hook on the front page, does WP:DYKRR prohibit me from reviewing it?--Launchballer 14:24, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Launchballer, it seems to me that you're involved. The nomination isn't even two weeks old; I wouldn't worry about "oldest fully unreviewed nom"; it will get picked up by someone else soon enough. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:47, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
  •   Article is new and long enough. Sourcing looks good and Earwig raises no concerns. Hook is interesting and sourced in the article. Photo is clear, licensing looks good, and works amazingly with the hook (I'd love to see this as the image hook). QPQ done so we are good to go. •   Owing to a concern raised by Aoidh at WT:DYK I've taken the bold step of pulling the hook from prep. A new hook may need to be proposed here. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:59, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
As written, this would deserve {{lead too short}}. Marshelec, would you be able to expand this?--Launchballer 14:50, 5 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Launchballer:Yes, quite right. I have now expanded the lead. Should I also now propose a different hook ? I am still keen to make progress with this nomination :) Marshelec (talk) 07:41, 6 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Works a treat, though I've given it a trim to comply with WP:LEADLENGTH (there should not be more than two paragraphs for a 1700 word article, and none of his early life contributes to notability). You can either find stronger sourcing for the current hook or propose another one.--Launchballer 08:10, 6 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not sure how much water that argument holds, if Wikipedia is the most interesting to a broad audience then that's what we should run with. A transport planner is always going to plan transport - what else does he do. I suggest either ALT1: ... that Axel Downard-Wilke (pictured) designed a system to help cyclists negotiate Christchurch intersections? or ALT2: ... that in 2020, the New Zealand transport planner Axel Downard-Wilke (pictured) led a campaign to have macrons used in Māori place names in Wikipedia articles?.--Launchballer 08:12, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have also considered a hook about the campaign for using macrons in the Māori place names in Wikipedia, but will leave DYK administrators to resolve whether or not it is appropriate to have a hook about the contribution that the subject has made to Wikipedia. In the meantime, I am exploring alternative hooks, and have just made a relatively small addition to the article that may facilitate a further alternative: ALT3 ...that in 2003 Axel Downard-Wilke (pictured) created a training course about Planning and Design for Cycling that has been regularly delivered for more than 20 years._Marshelec (talk) 08:22, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I do think that if we're not going with ALT0, then the other image should be used instead.--Launchballer 08:24, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
In my view, ALT2 might be more acceptable than the original hook because the original hook directly talked about his Wikipedia career while ALT2 is about Wikipedia but not directly about his editing. Having said that, given possible navel concerns, I will leave it to consensus whether or not to use it, but given one source used is a secondary source (NZ Herald), the sourcing itself shouldn't be an issue.
