Notability (from AfC)

I think that this certainly qualifies for notable. The requirement for notable is to have had a chart hit in a large or medium sized country OR being signed to a major record label OR achieving a gold record in a large or medium sized market OR having a song used as a theme song on television. Avalanche City have achieved all of these, and have done it in an interesting fashion, by giving away their album. I don't know of any artist/group that has had a similar level of success in their home market through such means. I'm still not sure what more they need. I've looked again at the criteria for notability, and it says that they need ONE of:

1 Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable and are independent from the musician or ensemble itself.[note 1]

   * This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries[note 2] except for the following:
         o Any reprints of press releases, other publications where the musician or ensemble talks about themselves, and all advertising that mentions the musician or ensemble, including manufacturers' advertising.[note 3]
         o Works comprising merely trivial coverage, such as articles that simply report performance dates, release information or track listings, or the publications of contact and booking details in directories.
         o Articles in a school or university newspaper (or similar) would generally be considered trivial but should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

2 Has had a single or album on any country's national music chart. 3 Has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country.

10 Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article. Avalanche City fulfill all 4 of these. (They were subject of a 15 minute slot on the highest rating radio show in New Zealand (Newstalk ZB breakfast show. They have had a single not only on a chart, but multiple weeks at the top of the chart. They have had a gold record in New Zealand. One of their songs is the theme song for one of the three most popular TV stations in New Zealand.) While this might not be particularly notable outside New Zealand, it certainly is notable in New Zealand.

The sources you've cited don't actually meet the first criterion. The interview constitutes "publications where the musician or ensemble talks about themselves" and the other three are press releases. But other than that, I agree, the subject is notable. You might try and find some more reliable sources (reprinted press releases generally aren't) though. —Joseph Roe^Tk•Cb, 08:31, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
