Notes edit

Wow, this page is terrible. The roster used is hardly good quality, as that is fairly much our B team. Maybe we should make it like a squad. Any pictures anyone has would be good. Also, the list of old guys, it's crap. mightymouseman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.72.251.107 (talk) 22:07, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Boomers.jpg edit

Image:Boomers.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Vandalism edit

wow there is so much vandalism on this page it is not even funny. Repeatedly, fake players are added to the page. Maybe it is time to have this page locked...? Stephreef (talk) 16:34, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

{{movereq}}

– This is to provide a consistent naming pattern for national teams and national team related articles, where a male and female team exists and to avoid any ambiguity as to which team the article is about across Australian national team articles. LauraHale (talk) 14:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose The idea of adding "men's" into article names for various sports has been discussed many times and the consensus has generally been not to do it. I notice that you have missed Australia national association football team from the list and I guess there are likely others as well. For consistency should you not be proposing the same thing for every countries national sports teams and every sport? noq (talk) 17:31, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
    • How practical would that be? (And the national soccer team article is already under discussion at a different location.) Powers T 21:27, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - This would affect all countries and require a much wider discussion. Not sure why it's been limited to Australia.--Jeff79 (talk) 22:17, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - This change would affect more than just Australian articles and requires discussion at a more centralised location. – PeeJay 00:10, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose for the cricket team - There are no rules preventing women from playing for "men's" teams in international cricket, and indeed a woman has played for one senior international side and once for a youth side below Test level Andrew nixon (talk) 03:08, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose all per Andrew Nixon's logic. While these teams may consist primarily (or even exclusively) of men, unless there is evidence that these teams are in fact restricted to men only then they should be presumed "open". Note that the women's teams by contrast are exclusively restricted to women and men are (quite rightly) not permitted to play. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 03:29, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - this looks like a case of systemic bias. In any case none of the current or proposed names are the common names for any of these teams - with the exception of the Australian cricket team. Hack (talk) 06:42, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose the current list (with adjustments for complete-ness) being changed. If it were to be done it would need to be done for all national teams, not just Australia's national teams: there are many different templates that are predicated on the team's articles being named a certain way. In at least some cases, if you heard the phrase "... the Australian *insert sport here* team..." on the news (and I'm thinking specifically of cricket and the various football codes at the moment), the majority of people, if not everyone, would assume the men's team was being referenced. I would have thought that at least where that's the case, WP:COMMONNAME says it should stay as is and doesn't need to be changed.  Afaber012  (talk)  07:03, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
      • My point was that for some sports one team would be more known than the other. Either every single national team for every nation in every sport should be distinguished between men's and women's, or (and this would be my preferred course of action despite the work and potential troubles involved) each pairing of national teams in every sport needs to be considered as to whether one is more common/well-known/thought-of-by-default/etc and have that one named "*nation* national *sport* team" and the other named "*nation* *gender* national *sport* team".  Afaber012  (talk)  10:59, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
        • Well I started a discussion but it's only gotten one barely-relevant reply so far. Powers T 11:25, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose what a silly suggestion. I'm in complete agreement with what Andrew Nixon said. AssociateAffiliate (talk) 13:48, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • OPPOSE! I can see the point why some people would like this article to be renamed. However, there is a common standard regarding national sports teams in Wiki articles. Nearly every country's national men's sports teams did not add "men's" in their articles. Therefore, it is reasonable to do the same for this article. 2sc945 (talk) 08:24, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Height edit

Why on Earth are players' heights being given in metres instead of centimetres? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.120.23.40 (talk) 23:17, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
