The note sourced to Guiness about the "largest oil gusher" needs a tie-in to him and further clarification rather than an isolated factoid. I've removed a couple other odd factoids - need clarification and addition as a prose section if important rather than rather meaningless listification bits. Well, he said it was a highlight of his life as petroleum geologist to discover rocks that were dropping asphalt in the Macarena Mountains, Columbia (Eichenberger, Ursula (5 September 2008). "Augusto Gansser, Vermesser der Welt" (in German). Das Magazin.).

OK, language is a handicap (I don't read German). Comments:

I can see that observing rocks dripping asphalt would be quite an experience for an exploration geologist. However most readers don't have a geology background and that factoid in isolation means nothing to them. In other words, it needs expansion if it is important enough to include - expansion as part of a biographical sketch in prose rather than a list element. (Side note, the wiki article on the Serranía de la Macarena states that the rocks are all Precambrian - seems it needs work as I don't see PC rocks dripping asphalt.)

I'm in doubt too, he says Mount Macarena in german, could be the range. I do not think PC rocks can have petroleum too, but I'm not sure.

The factoid They were grateful of the swede Sven Hedin's hints. also needs to be worked into a prose paragraph stating that they used Hedin's work as a guide for their exploration or something. And Swede should be capitalized.

The oil gusher needs a better tie to him - was it pure luck, did Gansser pick the spot to drill based on his geo-detective work or what? Again the factoid needs a better tie to his work in a prose paragraph or section about his work in Iran.

He was the Chief geologist, he linked his field reports with the pictures taken by the Iranian Air Force.

I listified the career section yesterday as it looked too choppy, but with additional info each list item could be worked into a brief paragraph in the career section. Vsmith (talk) 14:52, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
