Birth date?

• August's 1920 passport application says his birth date is 12 December 1897. He would have had to produce a birth certificate to prove it, no?

However ---

• His Find A Grave memorial page gives his birth date as 12 December 1898, but lacks a photo of his grave marker. (I have submitted a request for one.)
• There is a transcribed death record on FamilySearch that says 12 December 1898, but there is no image of it and no clue who the informant was.
• The Veterans Administration Master Index, 1917-1940, NARA microfilm publication 76193916, says his birth date is 12 December 1898.
• The Social Security Death Index entry says 12 December 1898.

PS - His passport application gives the spelling of his middle name as "Georg". Thanks, Wordreader (talk) 08:41, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

PPS - His marriage license application also gives a birth date of 12 December 1897. Be prepared for possible name alterations, too - there are more secondary sources that I have to wade through on FamilySearch. Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 16:48, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
