I am currently reviewing the article for "Good article" status. Axl ¤ [Talk] 18:27, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- From "Physical description", paragraph 3: "The change of colour is mediated by adrenergic stimulation, that is, change occurs as a result of the presence of the hormone epinephrine." I am guessing that this colour change is quick and is mediated by nerves? It seems more likely that uses norepinephrine rather than epinephrine? Axl ¤ [Talk] 18:40, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
I guess I'll just take it out.--Grander13 (talk) 22:48, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- From "Physical description", paragraph 4: "The bill is long and stout." The linked word "bill" goes to "beak", which actually describes a bird's beak. Axl ¤ [Talk] 18:43, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- From "Physical description", paragraph 4: "The anus is just in front of the origin of the first anal fin. It has twenty-four vertebrae, of which eleven are precaudal and thirteen are caudal." Do the 24 vertebrae belong to the anus or the first anal fin? Axl ¤ [Talk] 18:48, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- The plural form is inconsistent in the article: both "marlin" and "marlins" are used. Axl ¤ [Talk] 18:53, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- From "Economic importance": "The meat is of good quality because it has a high fat content." How much fat? Omega-3 fatty acid? Axl ¤ [Talk] 19:04, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
I don't know the exact amount of fat because it varies throughout the year, like all species of fish. I don't know about the Omega-3? --Grander13 (talk) 14:40, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
I can't find a range of the fat level. Most websites just describe the fat content as "high" or "medium-high".--Grander13 (talk) 18:13, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- What do the little larvae eat? Presumably not tuna, mackerel and squid? [Please add this info to the "Feeding habits" section.] Axl ¤ [Talk] 19:23, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
I don't know what they eat. I assume anything that is smaller than them. The only article I could find that would have that information I don't have access to.--Grander13 (talk) 22:48, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- I suppose that most of the seven million eggs released at each spawning are eaten by fish? Axl ¤ [Talk] 19:24, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
That is right, I can add that.--Grander13 (talk) 14:40, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Summary
edit- I have made a number of copyedits to the article. Overall, the article is fairly well-written. [There are a few outstanding points above.] It is accurate and well-referenced. It is comprehensive and stable. The pictures are from Wikimedia Commons with appropriate tags. Axl ¤ [Talk] 19:16, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
I think I have done everything I can.--Grander13 (talk) 22:53, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- The blue marlin is the largest billfish. This just seems so encyclopedic - - worthy of inclusion? --JimmyButler (talk) 00:43, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
GA pass
editAs I stated above, this is a high quality article. The factual content is accurate and well-referenced. I am awarding GA status. Thanks and congratulations to all editors, especially Grander13 and Ettrig.
I have asked the Guild of Copyeditors to review the plural form of "marlin" used. Some more information about the diet of the "planktonic larvae" would be helpful. So would more information about the fish's meat.
