Article development edit

Have expanded this article quite a bit. DavidMack 23:30, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Someone applied the "multiple issues" tag. What are the quality problems? As far as I can tell, this article is well-referenced and complete. Speak, or remove the tag. DavidMack (talk) 17:09, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Plot edit

The plot's too detailed and thorough, it is supposed to be a summary. Cbrown1023 15:33, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Made a start at shortening it and will do more. It still needs to have a little extra, due to the confusing start, the number of characters, and the exotic customs. DavidMack 03:52, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree. This can be a very confusing film, especially for non-Inuit audiences. I've spoken with the producer and it was his intention to leave mainsteam audiences a little in the dark. So more detail is justified here and I, for one, suggest losing the warning tag.Shawn in Montreal 19:31, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've remove it. Cbrown1023 21:27, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I removed an addition to the plot made by 216.191.239.82. We are keeping to the minimum number of words to make the story comprehensible. DavidMack 15:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think at this point the summary is reasonable in length -- it is about a 3 hour movie, afterall (most films are 1/3 to 1/2 the length of Atanarjuat, so it stands to reason that the summary would be that much longer than most movies.) And like others have said, that movie is kind of confusing to audiences not familiar with the customs of the area, so being detailed is of help. I hope it won't be objectionable to anyone if I go in and delete the length tag now.--Sobekneferu (talk) 06:15, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've shortened the plot quite a bit. It's 3 hours long, yes, but so are a lot of films (Blue Is the Warmest Colour, Apocalypse Now, Schindler's List), and anything like that would run afoul of WP:PLOT. Ribbet32 (talk) 05:19, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Clarification needed: Herschel Island edit

First it had the wrong Inuit word, which should have been Qikiqtaruk. Qikiqtaarjuk refers to the Arvia'juaq and Qikiqtaarjuk National Historic Site. The main problem is that according to the article the film "...is set in Igloolik ("place of houses") in the Eastern Arctic wilderness..." but Herschel Island is off the Yukon coast and is nowhere near Igloolik. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 01:30, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll check the original reference. — DavidMack (talk) 20:31, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. And I just realised that Qikiqtaarjuk is probably correct but that Herschel Island is wrong. Can you believe that I have never seen the movie. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 00:25, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Clean-up and references edit

This article needs extensive clean-up and additional references. I am adding tags for both. --N-k (talk) 15:54, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Requested move edit

AtanarjuatAtanarjuat: The Fast Runner – This is the title in the English-speaking world. WP:EN. --Relisted Cúchullain t/c 16:00, 10 December 2012 (UTC)Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 12:45, 10 November 2012 (UTC) Film Fan (talk) 19:58, 25 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. This appears to be the most common title. This reference[1] indicates that it was released in the United States as The Fast Runner, which exists as a redirect. Apteva (talk) 02:50, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I'm not sure that is the common name. I also wonder what is the official title? I see the production company calls it Atanarjuat (The Fast Runner) and Atanarjuat The Fast Runner. The poster also uses Atanarjuat The Fast Runner without the colon. For some reason the NFB uses Atanarjuat the Fast Runner. There are some sites that use the colon but not enough to convince me that the colon version is the most common. Another problem I have with the colon is that gives me the impression that The Fast Runner is a translation of Atanarjuat but uqilajuq means fast runner. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 15:10, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
    • Posters never have colons on them. With any film that has two parts to the title, you split it with a colon (e.g. Léon: The Professional). And with or without the colon, you are agreeing that the word order of the suggested name change is correct, correct? Also, have just done a search, and there are a few cases of no colon, and a few of brackets or dash, but the title with the colon is by far the most used. Film Fan (talk) 21:13, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
      • I think that Atanarjuat seems to be the more common usage. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 10:18, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
        • We are looking for the most common usage in the English-speaking world, not the country of origin. Film Fan (talk) 19:35, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Moved per consensus here. Nyttend (talk) 00:15, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup and Citations edit

This article is poorly developed and soured as it is missing important citations for its information. Several sections in the article do not meet Wikipiedia's standards as they are not written in an encyclopedic tone. The reception section is poorly developed and it written more like a list rather than the appropriate format and should be rewritten in order to meet Wikipiedia's standard formatting. Unsourced material also needs to be deleted or given proper citations. There is also preciously little information on the film's production, if more information exists then it needs to be added to the article in order to balance it with the other section is the article. All of these changes and additions need to occur in order for this article to meet Wikipiedia's standards of a well developed and properly sourced article.--Paleface Jack (talk) 19:00, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Long on vague complaints, short on specific solutions. Review was redundant to others above, hence why no one really asked for it, and completely unhelpful to the work recently done. Ribbet32 (talk) 05:19, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Production Section Expansion and Revision edit

After giving the article a look over, I have noticed that the production section needs to be worked on a bit more as there are some points that need to be rewritten and major portions added to the article. There is no information on the film's casting which should be added and expanded upon in detail within a subsection placed after the development subsection. Some of the structure for the Production section needs to be revised like the Filming subsection all need to be redone and paraphrased, as well as having a little more information on the various aspects and designs of filming.--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:38, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Vague, useless complaints. Go do something productive. Ribbet32 (talk) 14:39, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ribbet32 First off they are not "vague and useless complaints", they are constructive criticism intended to help this article be the best that is can be. To say that what I listed above was vague and useless is untrue since the whole Manual of Style for Film articles not only suggests this but recommends it. When you go on and say "Do something productive" is unnecessary and rude, I am just trying to help. Please keep that in mind before you go about saying stuff and being all dismissive.--Paleface Jack (talk) 20:09, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
