Separation edit
Hey, I believe that this name has two very different meanings in Arabic and Turkish, derived from their own unique roots. Is it possible a separation as two articles like Ata (Arabic name) and Ata (Turkish name)? --193.234.224.155 (talk) 12:22, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- It would indeed be possible, but from the present starting-point it would be highly undesirable. Even the current level of separation needs to be supported by wikipedia:reliable sources. The fact that a name has a meaning in a particular language does not prove that it is derived from the word in that language. A name meaning "ancestor" is a pretty weird name to give a child, whereas many Turkish and other islamic given names are taken over from Arabic. If you can produce a reliable source stating that "Ata" as a name for a Turkish person is derived from "ata" the Turkish word, put it in the article and I'll be convinced, but not otherwise. - Turkish use is more common with the meaning ancestor, really. That would be a reference, I believe that, and names related with Ata (ancestor) also exist in Turkish, like Atakan having ancestor's blood, Atahan an ancestor who had been a khan, Atan your ancestor, Atagün preceding day or Atabey an ancestor who had been a governor. I will be checking the Turkish sources also, but if you ask anyone the meaning of the name Ata in any street of Istanbul, people answer it as father or ancestor. --193.234.224.146 (talk) 08:58, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
