Asuka as a 'Mother Figure'

I believe that I must agree that Asuka is indeed a very proud individual by nature; for she has to be since, because of lack of loving parents, she needs someone to be proud of her as a parent would, so she is proud of HERSELF. Also, I believe this personality was meant to conflict with Shinji's, since he lost his mother at a young age while Asuka (in mentality) acts like a mother. Note her always saying things like "don't be stupid" or other somewhat motherly things (I will say don't be stupid isn't exactly motherly, but it does relate to 'dont do anything you'll regret later', which is often told to small children.) She is also quite cruel to Rei, since Rei never had a mother (in theory) and therefore rejects that idea. Asuka is cruel to Rei because if Asuka "Is a mother-figure" and Rei rejects a non-existent mother, then Rei is like a defiant child and so Asuka must be quick to repiemand, therefore the cruelty. Congratulations

I want to express my gratitude to those who really helped to punch up Shinji, Rei and Asuka's pages. They are fantastic now. Also, do you think you guys can give Misato's page some love also? At some point it will happen, but for my part I focus on the fan wikis and just adjust the stuff here. There is quite a lot of stuff going on on the fan communities currently. I'm guessing I'll adapt whatever we come up with for the next movie, too. Interestingly the reason the articles here were mostly the same for about 10 years seems to be because the editors involved mostly moved to EvaGeeks at the time already - I know many of them. Just this week I removed the death threats myth from the EoE and Anno pages - those got more views as all the character articles put together. Even though it was something that we had disproven years ago, it was still here. So sure while it's great that they are updated, it was mostly because the fan wikis just get about 8 times more views for Eva stuff than here so it wasn't people's focus.FelipeFritschF (talk) 02:00, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Nationality

Hi everyone.

I saw that the nationality of the character is wrong. I checked diverse sources and everything indicates that Asuka was born in the USA. There is also no source indicating that she born in Germany, has German nationality or even multiple citizenship.

The funny thing its that the quote that affirmed her birthplace as Germany in the previous version of the article was "Evangelion Chronicle vol 14 page 23" thing that its completely false. I checked Evangelion Chronicle Vol. 4, page 7 and Vol. 14, page 23 and it confirms that she's American. So the person who added that quote was deliberately lying.

Anyway, due to the likely controversy of this topic and the confimation that some editor was manipulating sources, I had to add several sources in the article and create this section in the Talk page as witness.

Sources in the article I just added:

日本人とドイツ人のクォーターだが、国籍はアメリカ。- She is a quarter Japanese-German, but her nationality is American.

• Also the manga glossary confirms her nationality, but I'm not adding it in the article because it's a different continuity of the franchise, but I'm putting it here in case you want to see it.

@Gibson Nash: The earlier version of the article and the source used that you mentioned (EC, v. 14) do not, contrary to what you said, indicate that Asuka is German or that she was born in Germany. It only reports that "she has German and Japanese blood and US citizenship". Since the new version is unnecessarily complicated, I restore the old one. Please, don't accuse others of manipulation when the text doesn't seem to contain errors, at least to me.

Now, since the diatribe isn't about the text and the source you cited, which seem correct to me, but about the lead box, I moved the sources to that one. I never noticed or cured the box, sorry, and never paid much attention to the edits. Various users seem to have literally fought and edited that information in the box dozens of times without me paying attention. Mea culpa. But I remain of the opinion that they are bona fide user edits. Assuming good faith users, again, now we are missing an accurate reference for The Master Guide. @Gibson Nash: No problem. I use links in cite books just if the site is official or strictly required. In this particular case, I think the template is enough. I also prefer the French version of The Essential since the English one contains translation errors. That's not the case with this particular page, but since Glénat Side B is already mentioned, I used the same edition. Do you know the title or the ISBN of The Master guide? And do you have a source which clearly indicates Asuka's birthplace?TeenAngels1234 (talk) 10:54, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

Also here it is another source, yeah many many sources, but I think this topic can be really controversial for most of the fans, due in the TV series her nationality is never explicitly mentioned and the common sense can deduct that she is German.

@Gibson Nash: Now I see. Either this user's edits are bona fide but bad or, yeah, you're right, then they are really deliberate. Try contacting an admin if necessary here and on es.wiki. On the birthplace question: yes, we know her nationality is US, as mentioned in this TP and as reported in the article, but I wouldn't assume that means she was also born in the US - we don't know all the geopolitical rules of the post-Second Impact world, after all. However you seem to have several Japanese sources. If you have any more scans from Newtype, Ide Koji's book or anything else about NGE, please, upload. I physically have the whole Evangelion Chronicle magazine and other sources, but I miss many of them ^^TeenAngels1234 (talk) 22:46, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi, again.

In real life, a child cannot have only and only the US citizenship if was born in another country. This child must have, first a "primary citizenship" after that the US parent can apply to give to the child the American citizenship, but the child would be have multiple citizenship. And how I said before there is no source indicating that she has multiple citizenship.

Also correct me if im wrong, but in the characters profiles in Evangelion Chronicle it is not used the word "Nationality" in cases of characters who we know certainly were born in Japan? As Ritsuko, Misato, Shinji, etc. So I take this as 100% her birthplace was the US.

PS: Yeah I have all the numbers of Newtype and Chronicle. Any topic in particular you need? Or you still talking about Asuka?

@Gibson Nash: Yeah, I agree. But, as I said, we technically don't know the geopolitical rules of the postSI world in NGE, so, while highly plausible, I would prefer an explicit birthplace for an eventual line in the lead box. Ethnicity

I want to talk about this topic. The table in the article says that she is Japanese, when she is 25% German, 25% Japanese, and 50% American. I admit that I am ignorant on the subject, I do not know if American can be considered an ethnic group, due of the history and diversity of blood in the American citizens.

However, I want to hear what you think. Is it better to add the 3 ethnic groups? Or just Japanese and German?

But to be honest, I am of the opinion that the paragraph ethnicity is unnecessary and should be removed from the table. Gibson Nash (talk) 22:40, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
