Soviet UPMK is completely different, earlier design edit
The section on Soviet APUs suggests that UMK/UPMK is an alternate name for SPK. Meanwhile, this article http://galaxy-science.ru/component/k2/item/114-peredvizheniya-kosmonavtov-v-kosmose.html (a more in-depth variant of Vokrug Sveta article, seemingly by the same authors) suggests that the only SPK that can be called that was the 21KS and its variants. Moreover, the term SPK (sredstvo peredvizheniya kosmonavta, or Cosmonaut Propulsion Unit) is used interchangeably with model number and yet another abbreviation, UPK (ustroistvo, Cosmonaut Propulsion Device; example: http://www.astronaut.ru/bookcase/books/stan_mir/text/06.htm ). So it is very likely that SPK is a name for a class of devices, not a model.
Meanwhile, the same article describes and pictures the UPMK itself, which is radically different design, using solid-fuel boosters in patterns close to the cosmonaut's center of mass, and shaped like a horseshoe. This UMPK was never either flown to orbit or tested there.
The article is from the popular science magazine, so there is a need to double-check this information with some reference. The article in its current state has only pictures of the 21KS SPK.
