Nino Rota's score for Fellini's Roma edit

I would swear that the opening notes of Nino Rota's musical theme for Federico Fellini's 1972 film Roma are a tip of the hat to Arrivederci Roma. Can anyone confirm that? If so, is there a reference for it?
