Untitled edit

Other than a stub describing the non-profit entity located on campus at Indiana university, I entered it as a full article with the intent to edit it down to what would fit the manual of style for wikipedia as befits a non-profit archive or museum.

Any editor wishing to assist is welcome to make the changes that are necessary to attain a cleaner version that is acceptable.

About the AAAMC

Established in 1991, the Archives of African American Music and Culture (AAAMC) is a repository of materials covering a range of African American musical idioms and cultural expressions from the post-World War II era. Our collections highlight popular, religious, and classical music, with genres ranging from blues and gospel to R&B and contemporary hip hop. The AAAMC also houses extensive materials related to the documentation of Black radio.

The AAAMC supports the research of scholars, students, and the general public worldwide by providing access to holdings which include oral histories, photographs, musical and print manuscripts, audio and video recordings, educational broadcast programs, and the personal papers of individuals and organizations concerned with Black music. We also invite exploration of our collections and related topics through a variety of public events, print and online publications, and pedagogical resources.

Our Mission

To establish a unique collection of primary and secondary source materials on African-American music and culture where such materials are scarce or nonexistent To preserve and disseminate these materials for research and instructional purposes To expose materials to the general public through outreach programs such as live performances, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and summer music camps To engage in collaborative research and creative projects with units at Indiana University as well as with state and national institutions and associations To develop instructional multi-media materials such as websites, CD-ROM programs, and video documentaries related to various aspects of African American music To provide practical experiences in archiving and the preparation of materials for public use

Access

The AAAMC is open to the public. Appointments are strongly encouraged so the staff can prepare materials for research. Circulation of AAAMC collection materials is allowed on a limited basis and is restricted to IUB faculty and graduate teaching assistants.
