Is it now appropriate if we start adding results for football/soccer leagues in Europe? Since they're nearing the homestretch, the following types of teams may be added:

  • Teams competing for the championship (ManUtd and Chelsea)
  • Teams competing for the last European berth (Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza for the last UCL berth)
  • Teams competing against relegation (Wigan, Sheffield, Charlton, WHU and Watford)

While limiting the leagues with the best UEFA coefficients (like the top 5) plus the SPL. --Howard the Duck 05:21, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

NHL and NBA Playoffs edit

Are we agreed as was the case last year for the first two rounds of the NBA and NHL playoffs (unless something unusual occurs like a five-overtime game) that only games that eliminate a team will only be posted on the date that they are played? NoseNuggets 5:19 PM US EDT Apr 5 2007

Just a thought.... Last October, all games of the MLB divisional round were posted. As there are 8 teams that compete in this round, it is basically equivalent to the 2nd round of the NBA and NHL playoffs, with the exception being 5 games instead of 7. What are your thoughts about posting only the final game for the 1st round, but for the 2nd round posting scores and series record, but without any "extra descriptive text" (such as Game 3: Phoenix Suns 99, Sacramento Kings 98. I say post them all and add descriptive text beginning at the Conference Finals, unless something really big happens (OTs can be added in the scores like Game 3: Phoenix Suns 99, Sacramento Kings 98 (OT).) like suspensions of players. --Howard the Duck 16:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
AM, Howard, I didn't see the Four OT Dallas-Vancouver Game One mentioned in the daily fodder April 11th, so I'll fix that soon. As for baseball, as AM pointed out, the Divisional Series games are played almost every day, and they are best-of-five series. And Howard, NBA and NHL series are all best-of-seven, and the first round of the NBA playoffs take almost forever IMHO, whereas hockey is more compact (two weeks max) to have a best-of-seven, with each series going almost every other day. Unless ESPN makes a monster offer for all the NBA rights starting in 2007-08, this stupidity of having these basketball playoffs drag out is inane. Besides, only listing the "elimination" games (such as the Minnesota-Anaheim game first) during the first two rounds saves us bandwidth until there are seperate North American and International pages for Current Events/Sports. Only games where teams are eliminated in the first two rounds are to be posted as to save the bandwidth space until we have seperate North American and International Current Events/Sports pages. Starting with the Conference finals in both leagues, we will have recaps and scores of all games. If anyone does try to put up "non-elimination games", they will be deleted. All I can say for now is we should post "For full information on 2007 NBA Playoff and 2007 NHL Playoff Games that are not listed, see ((2007 NBA Playoffs)) and ((2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs)) pages." We don't have to do anything to save bandwidth, in fact, we are encouraged not to do anything. So unless you can come up with a better excuse, I don't see any reason why we should add them, what the heck, a regular season NFL game is more notable than a Game 3 of an NBA Conference Semifinal?   • NN - I really don't see how you can make an argument that the round of 8 in these winter sports is different than MLB. Also, your argument about bandwidth is unclear, are you saying that the server or the network can't handle it? I am unconvinced that is the case. I agree. The semifinals are important games, and I think that the scores should be posted. I'm not asking/saying that we put up an entire game summary or anything, but a simple score, followed by how the series stands is appropriate. Jmlk17 22:59, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Howard: NFL games are played weekly. Every game counts, even if you suck like the Oakland Raiders. I am going to send this NHL/NBA Playoff Elimination Games Only (in the first two rounds) biz to the Wikipedia dispute editors to settle this once and for all and if you don't like it, then I will hate you. Care to read about WP:CONSENSUS? The overwhelming consensus is to include at least the conference semifinals games. Every game does count in a playoff series, more than an NFL regular season game. You can lose an NFL regular season game and still contend for a playoff berth; if you'd lose a game in a playoff series, it'll be much harder since there are only a maximum 7 games, and there are even no tiebreakers; compare that to an NFL season's 16 games. That'll even make a game in a playoff series more than twice as important as an NFL regular season game!
I'd agree that the first round games can be omitted, but conference semifinals games are like the Wildcard Playoffs. --Howard the Duck 14:08, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I fail to see how the argument that every game counts applies more to a non-playoff football game and MLB non-elimination games than it does to playoff games in NBA and NHL. Please do take it to dispute resolution. Post a link here to the discussion so that interested parties may participate. Otherwise, please do not remove the content against consensus. If the dispute resolution process says it shouldn't be there, then I will abide and will not hate you.
