Updates edit

I work for Rubenstein and on behalf of Anthony Pratt, I'd like to propose the follow updates and additions to the article. To mitigate conflict of interest issues, I ask that an editor please review and either give feedback and/or edit accordingly. NinaSpezz (talk) 20:11, 1 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Info box

  • Pratt's birthday is April 11, 1960 [1]
  • Pratt's residence is Melbourne, Australia and New York City, US[2]
  Done Here. Meatsgains (talk) 19:01, 13 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Lead paragraph

  • As mentioned above, Pratt's birthday is April 11, 1960 [1]
  • Add "Australia" after Visy Industries and "USA" after Pratt Industries.
  • Update sentence that begins with "Meanwhile, Forbes..." to say: Meanwhile, Forbes has assessed Pratt's net worth in 2016 at US$4.5 billion; listing his sisters' wealth independently.[3]
  • Remove "(a manufacturing magnate himself)" as it's repetitive
  • Remove "who founded Visy" - as Leon Pratt founded Visy, not Richard Pratt [1]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 02:45, 14 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Background and career

  • Re-title section to the more commonly used: "Early life and education" and end section at "1982."
  • Create new section titled:
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 03:01, 14 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Career

  • Begin section with Pratt joined the consulting firm of McKinsey & Co in 1982, before joining Visy as joint General Manager of Visy's board.
  • The sentence that begins "In 1988...", should say Deputy Chairman of Visy Industries and not Pratt Industries, which is inaccurate.
  • Update sentence that says "and by 2013..." to say: and by 2016 revenue was US$3 billion.[4]
  • Insert "containerboard" between "major" and "paper company"
  • Update number of Pratt Industries staff to 5,800[2]
  • Insert after paragraph ending with "– more US citizens than any other Australian company.": In 2016, Pratt was awarded the RISI North American Packaging CEO of the Year Award.[2][5] That same year, Pratt opened a 100% recycled paper mill near Chicago, adding about US$1 billion to Pratt’s wealth.[6]
  • Remove "The number of U.S. employees is set to grow in the wake of the 2013 announcement that Pratt would begin construction of a fourth, 100-percent recycled-paper mill near Chicago in 2014." - as that language is now outdated.
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 03:01, 14 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Personal life

  • Replace "returning to Australia in 2009" with "taking over the company"
  • Add "In 2013" just before sentence that begins "Pratt was awarded an honorary PhD..." and add citation: [7]
  • Add to very end of section: He is also a member of the Australian-American Leadership Dialogue which seeks to strengthen and deepen the ties between Australian and American leaders.[8]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 03:07, 14 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wealth rankings

  • I am concerned "reflecting in a sharp decline in his assessed personal wealth and creating a disparity between the BRW and Forbes lists" violates WP:NOR and suggest it be deleted.
  • Add just after "Heloise Waislitz.": As of May 2016, Forbes assessed Pratt's US wealth at US$4.5 billion[3]
  • Add to very end of that paragraph to provide balance: In response, Pratt said, "All I can say is that we abide by all the laws, as any good ethical company does."[2] Australia's assistant treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer said almost 600 other companies had also paid no taxes, adding: "Just because they don’t pay tax doesn’t mean that they are avoiding tax."[9]

Threaded discussion edit

  • I'm going to start making the changes you've requested but there may be issues with some of the sources you've listed. Meatsgains (talk) 18:46, 13 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@NinaSpezz: I've gone through, reviewed, and made most requested changes. Let's discuss if you have any points of contention. Meatsgains (talk) 03:24, 14 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Meatsgains: Thank you very much for all your help on this. I just have a few comments.
  • Why not add the exact birthday to the info box? It seems awkward to give just the year as the "age 55-56" is then auto-generated. If the exact date is known, why not add it there as well?
  • The info box still lists Pratt's residence as Melbourne, Australia and Atlanta, US. I see you added a line about residences in the "Personal life" section. Could you revise the residences in the info box to match (Melbourne, Australia and New York City, US)?
  • I made an error in outlining the desired updates to the # of employees given in the "Career" section. Pratt Industries employs 5,800 (per this ref [2]). And Visy Australia employs 5,500 (per this ref [23]).

@Meatsgains: - A few items I hope you might help me with below. NinaSpezz (talk) 14:21, 27 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • There's a discrepancy here between the wealth figure from Forbes Asia and Forbes US. The Forbes US wealth figure [2] was US$4.5 billion when I proposed the edits (US$4.4 billion today). However, the Forbes Asia figure is presented in the info box as well as the table in the "Wealth rankings" section as US$3.6 billion. Can these two figures be updated to reflect the Forbes US figure of US$4.4 billion [3]?
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 23:01, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • After the paragraph in "Personal life" about the Global Food Forum, is it possible to add: In October 2016, Pratt will launch the first American-based Global Food Forum in partnership with The Wall Street Journal.[24]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 23:05, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • You cut a mention of Pratt being honored by the Foreign Policy Association in 2009, I assume because it lacked a citation. Here are a couple citations to support that sentence: In 2009, Pratt was honored by the New York-based Foreign Policy Association, with its Corporate Social Responsibility Award.[25][26]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 23:11, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Is it possible to move the "Philanthropy" section to just after "Wealth rankings"?
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 23:12, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

All your requests improved the overall quality of the page and were uncontroversial. I had no problem making these changes. Let me know if there are any other improvements you'd like to see and thank you for taking your concerns to the talk page rather than editing the page yourself given your COI. Meatsgains (talk) 23:15, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Meatsgains: Once again, thank you for your assistance. One more thing - the 2016 wealth figure in the table inside the "Wealth rankings" section still says US$3.6 billion. NinaSpezz (talk) 14:38, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
Done Not a problem. Glad I could help. Meatsgains (talk) 23:34, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Meatsgains: Could we edit the recently added sentence in "Personal life" about the Global Food Forum for accuracy? The sentence that begins with "In October 2016" should say, "In October 2016, The Wall Street Journal will launch a U.S.-based Global Food Forum, of which Pratt is an official sponsor." NinaSpezz (talk) 18:35, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@NinaSpezz:   Done Meatsgains (talk) 18:54, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Meatsgains: Forbes recently ranked Pratt Industries among America's largest private companies. Would it be possible to add to the Career section just after the sentence that ends with "adding about US$1 billion to Pratt’s wealth." the following?
Also in 2016, Forbes ranked Pratt Industries #181 on its list of "America's Largest Private Companies." [27] NinaSpezz (talk) 18:57, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
@NinaSpezz:   Done Meatsgains (talk) 21:13, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Meatsgains: Once again, could use your help with adding a blurb. Just after the sentence you added most recently ("Also in 2016,..."), could we edit the sentence that says "In addition, Pratt's Visy employs 5500 people in Australia" to say: In addition, Pratt's Visy, which employs 5500 people in Australia, was named Australia's largest private company by revenue.[28] (and keep the citation that's already there)? NinaSpezz (talk) 15:46, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  Done Meatsgains (talk) 17:59, 4 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Meatsgains: Since the U.S.-based Global Food Forum has taken place, I'd like to update the text that begins "In October 2016..." in the "Personal life" section to say:
In October 2016, Pratt officially sponsored The Wall Street Journal's launch of the inaugural U.S.-based Global Food Forum.[29] In his opening remarks, Pratt called on food industry leaders to start a national conversation about how to double the size of the American food industry to US$1.8 trillion and thereby create millions of new jobs.[30] NinaSpezz (talk) 16:11, 17 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Criticism edit

This article is pretty hard to follow, with lots of listings of random dinners the subject organised in 2017 - apparently added at the suggestion of an employee - while details like the year Pratt actually started at Visy are missing. The content reads very similarly to promotional materials - eg the way the Mckinsey sentence is combined with Pratt's first job at Visy. I'm pretty shocked how much content was added at the suggestion of an employee, that was not simple corrections (per discussion below) but there is also just way too much flowery language that also seems to have made it's way into the article that just makes the writing hard to follow. For example phrases like: "his largest-ever deal in America" / "he broke ground on his Australian company's largest ever single investment" suggest deleting these descriptions as they are self-referential and could be out of date and just replacing with the $ amounts if they are significant enough to the wider article to keep ---Geelong 1985 (talk) 13:20, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Additions edit

I work for Rubenstein and on behalf of Anthony Pratt, I'm proposing the following additions.

@Meatsgains: Hoping you might be able help me out with these as you were helpful in making edits to this page last year. NinaSpezz (talk) 20:03, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Career

  • Add after "It is the only major paper container board company that is 100 percent recycled.":
In 2013, then-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented Pratt with a proclamation declaring September 17, 2013, Pratt Industries Day.[1][2]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 16:49, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • In sentence that begins with "That same year.." replace "near Chicago" with "Valparaiso, Indiana"
Do you have a source for this? Meatsgains (talk) 16:51, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • After "That same year..." sentence, add:
It was officially opened by then-Governor Mike Pence.[3] Then, in March, 2017, Pratt opened his 68th factory, a box-making plant, with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in Beloit.[4]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 16:54, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Add to end of Career section -
On May 4th, 2017, Anthony Pratt pledged in the presence of President Donald Trump to invest $2 billion to create 5,000 high-paying manufacturing jobs over 10 years mainly in the Midwest. President Trump gave Pratt a standing ovation.[5][6]
I added the content but left out Trump's standing ovation as it is a slightly promotional. Meatsgains (talk) 16:57, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Personal Life

  • In sentence that begins "In October 2016..." replace "officially sponsored" with "was the founding sponsor of" and delete "launch of the"
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 17:01, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • At end of sentence that begins with "In his opening remarks..." add, "under the slogan "Export Food, Not Jobs.[7]"
Done and also added another RS to Skynews. Meatsgains (talk) 17:06, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Add after sentence above -
Pratt was the founding sponsor of The Wall Street Journal’s inaugural Global Food Forum dinner in Los Angeles on January 12, 2017,[8][9] and The Wall Street Journal’s second Global Food Forum dinner in Chicago on May 11, 2017, where he advocated for increased U.S. food exports.[10][11]
Instead of sounding repetitive, I just updated the sentence higher up in the section. [4] Meatsgains (talk) 17:10, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Meatsgains:Thank you for your help on this. That portion, as currently written, is inaccurate. The Los Angeles and Chicago events occurred during different months in 2017. Could I suggest removing "and January 2017" and adding just after the existing sentence: At subsequent Global Food Forum dinners during 2017 in Los Angeles and Chicago, Pratt continued to advocate for increased U.S. food exports. NinaSpezz (talk) 20:00, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Done, I think.. [5] Let me know if this works. Meatsgains (talk) 01:31, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Meatsgains: Thanks. Could I suggest the sentence be moved to the end of that paragraph so the content about the October 2016 event is all together? In other words, move the "At subsequent.." sentence to just after "under the slogan "Export Food, Not Jobs". So that it reads: "under the slogan "Export Food, Not Jobs. At subsequent Global Food Forum dinners..." NinaSpezz (talk) 13:01, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  Done [6] Meatsgains (talk) 01:57, 19 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Add after "He is also a member of the Australian-American Leadership...
In 2017, Anthony Pratt attended Vice President Mike Pence’s business roundtable at the Vice President's official residence in Washington D.C.[12]
  Done
  • Add after that sentence:
Also in 2017, Anthony Pratt became a member of Mar-a-Lago, President Trump's private Florida club.[13]
  Done
@Meatsgains: Thank you. Possible to relocate this sentence to just after "Washington D.C." so the undated information is at the end of that section? NinaSpezz (talk) 20:08, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 01:22, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Philanthropy

  • Add to end of section:
In 2017 Pratt hosted a Food Waste Summit at his Melbourne home aimed at halving Australia's food waste by 2030.[14]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 17:30, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Add after that sentence:
Also in 2017, he was executive producer and guest conductor at a fundraising gala concert for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, aimed at bringing classical music to the masses.[15]
  Done Meatsgains (talk) 17:30, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Meatsgains: Thanks! I've marked this request as partially implemented. Once the request is fulfilled according to policy, please mark it as answered. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 03:16, 19 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Declined While news coverage can be useful source material for encyclopedic topics, most newsworthy events do not qualify for inclusion. For example, routine news reporting on things like a trip taken by an individual from one country to visit with an individual from another country — especially if the two individuals meeting are already well acquainted with each other — is not a sufficient basis for inclusion in the encyclopedia, per WP:NOTNEWSPAPER. Even if that individual is the President, who holds many such routine meetings everyday. Spintendo      16:38, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Spintendo: - Thanks for you assistance on this. Noticed, however, the title given for the AFR reference is incorrect. (Says "Cardboard King..." but should be "2018 Rich List: How...") NinaSpezz (talk) 11:59, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
I have fixed the title, old title being a link on the page. Dhtwiki (talk) 18:10, 6 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

With infobox and wealth rankings table revised to include 2018 stats, would like to update the page's lead paragraph with the following, as the lead currently mentions 2016 and 2017 wealth rankings:

According to the 2018 Financial Review Rich List, Pratt and his family have a net worth of A$12.90 billion, making Pratt and his family the richest in Australia for the second consecutive year. [9][10]

Updated to 12.9. The claim regarding the richest family in Australia is an absolute claim, whereas stating something as being definitive when that something is based upon analysis done by one organization, can be problematic at best.  spintendo  20:23, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Spintendo: Thank you. The year in that sentence still needs to be revised to 2018 and the citations are still linking to the previous year's rankings. NinaSpezz (talk) 20:28, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
The fact that the Forbes mention in the very next sentence remains out of date seems to indicate that the year given for these figures is not of paramount importance. Thus, I have removed the date in question. The URL for the up-to-date reference may be found in the infobox.  spintendo  21:29, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Australia-UK Leadership Dialogue edit

I work for Rubenstein and on behalf of Anthony Pratt, I'd like to add to the Philanthropy section that Pratt is a Founding Patron of the Australia-UK Leadership Dialogue. In addition, the 3rd sentence ("Australian patron of the Trilateral...") in that section is not a complete sentence. I suggest adding "Pratt is also an..." to the beginning. To the end of that sentence, I'd like to add:

and a founding patron of the Australia-UK Leadership Dialogue.[1]
