Hello Wikipedia and fellow wikiiists, (is that the plural for fellow wiki users?). My main point is this would be my very first edit to a page on here and I would like to change the picture of Anthony to one of him as a Manchester United player, as I believe that this would suit the article at this time, as to represent his transfer.

Wrong price edit

His transfer fee is 80m euros, which is £57m. All French sources quote that figure, as well as Arsene Wenger. 18:30, 12 September 2015 (UTC)5.80.184.25 (talk)

It depends on the source you have, and a lot of reliable sources in the English language say £58 million, which must be a basic approximation of 80 million euros. If the fee was actually paid in euros, of course that can be added separately, with a source. '''tAD''' (talk) 19:04, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Career statistics do not add up correctly.

Under Career Statistics, by club, his total For Man United should be 4 apps/4 goals, not 3 apps/3 goals. Someone updated his league cup stats, but never finished the table by adding the new values to the totals. His career totals should also be 76 apps 19 goals.

Martial made his debut at Old Trafford on 12 September as a 65th-minute substitute for Juan Mata, and scored the final goal of a 3–1 win over rivals Liverpool.[23] Van Gaal called it a "marvellous goal".

(Add)

In the season 2015/2016 Manchester United, the most successful team in the English Premier League completed the transfer for a teenager by the name of Anthony Martial. At the age of 19, Martial had become the most expensive ‘youngster’ in Manchester United’s history. Paying “the initial fee of 50m Euros for the player is to be paid in two instalments - 20m within three days of his transfer and, 30m on July 1”[1]. Manchester United was still in a moment of transition, the manager at the time, Louis Van Gaal was the second manager in two years after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. Sir Alex Ferguson was Manchester United’s manager for 26 years, therefore his retirement lead United into a transition period and adjustment without him in charge of the team. Due to this transition period, and the multiple managers, indicating a lack of positive results, Martial’s purchase was heavily criticised and speculated about, whether the ‘youngster’ would meet his demands.

Anthony Martial made his Manchester United debut, the 12th of September in 2015. His debut was against Manchester United’s biggest rival, Liverpool. The rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United, became the biggest game in England lately, simply due to the fact that Manchester United was capable to overtake Liverpool as the most successful English club, by having the most Premier League titles. Anthony Martial made his debut in the 65th minute substituting Juan Mata. Anthony Martial had a total of “one shot, 86% pass accuracy, one take-on completed, won 25% of his aerial duels, and one interception completed”[2]. Manchester United was ahead by two goals up to the 84th minute, when Christian Benteke scored, which created a bit of uncertainty. Yet, on the 86th minute Anthony Martial secured the win with a “marvellous goal,” as Louis Van Gaal put it. This win and debut, essentially lead Martial into an amazing season scoring 11 goals in 17 games. These performances eventually earned Martial the Golden Boy award, given to the best young player under the age of 21. UrriGran (talk) 09:27, 25 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not done but open for relisting – First of all, it's too long; second of all, it's a bit too FLOWERY. Is it possible to go back and trim it down a bit, and remove the terms that promote the subject (such as "amazing")? ToThAc (talk) 15:02, 25 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Jordan or Joran edit

I see from the source when the Premier League website released the squad list for the current season has a different result for the full name. The Premier League source given says his middle name does not use the d although the attached pdf does. One of these two sources must be wrong.[1][2] Iggy (Swan) 14:40, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

FWIW, "Anthony Joran Martial" gets more than twice as many hits on Google than "Anthony Jordan Martial" (note the speech marks), among them transfermarkt.fr. Also, most of the corresponding non-English-language Wikipedia pages for Anthony Martial that include his middle name use Joran rather than Jordan, including the French one (one exception being the Italian page). Stephen MUFC (talk) 19:59, 10 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Some sources that use Joran rather than Jordan:
I don't know which name is right but I think the fact there is a difference in sources should be acknowledged and convincingly solved if possible. It seems plausible to me than Jordan is a hypercorrection of Joran (especially easily done by English speakers, I suppose). Stephen MUFC (talk) 13:27, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Joran doesn't appear to be an actual given name and certainly isn't the French form of Jordan. My suspicion is that the Premier League either misspelled his middle name or it was submitted to them wrong. I would also take note of Martial's page at Companies House, which spells his middle name as Jordan; I assume he spelt his middle name correctly when submitting his details to them. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:36, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Joran actually is a French-language forename (albeit not a common one; see here, here or here, for example), but you're right that it's definitely not the French version of Jordan. I've seen you cite that website in the edit history of the page too and, although I doubt that, if he filled them in, he misspelt his own name, I doubt that he did actually fill them in himself so it's possible Jordan is a mistake there. Clearly some form somewhere has been filled in with the incorrect name. I don't know (or, for that matter, care) which name is correct but I don't think there is stronger evidence at the moment for preferring one over the other. Stephen MUFC (talk) 14:14, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the links you cite above, I'm left feeling uncertain as to which is correct. Joran is indeed a French-language name, although Jordan seems to be much more popular when comparing the two on magicmaman.com. Might be worth taking this to WT:FOOTY for more opinions? Seems like a sensible thing to do. Stephen MUFC (talk) 14:38, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
