Use of the phrase "former Anglicans" edit
The use of the phrase "former Anglicans" is controversial because it represents a particular point of view that is not universally accepted. Those that use the phrase "former Anglicans" do not believe that one can be both Anglican and in full communion with the Catholic Pope, at least under current conditions. They do not consider members of Anglican Use parishes to be Anglicans at all. Many members of those parishes, however, do consider themselves to be Anglicans and describe themselves as such. This gets to the heart of the problem -- the several different definitions of "anglican". There are at least four distinct, non-overlapping meanings for "anglican": (1) a member of the Church of England; (2) a member of the Anglican Communion; (3) a member of any denomination that worships in the Anglican tradition but is not Catholic (and perhaps not Orthodox), i.e. any member to the Anglican Communion, the Anglican Continuum, and other similar denominations; and (4) any person or group that worships in accordance with the Anglican tradition, including Anglican Use parishes. Which definition should we use here? I think that since the parishes and the liturgy are called "Anglican Use" and that the members of those groups describe themselves as "Anglican" that we should use that definition, the most expansive. We should not add the controversial modifier of "former". This may not fit my theology or my beliefs about how "Anglican" Anglican Use parishes are but I think that it is more neutral. --Bruce Hall (talk) 05:10, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

InfoBox: Redirects to wrong organization. edit
In the History section, it states: "The Anglican Church in America was created in 1991 following extensive negotiations between the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC) and the American Episcopal Church (AEC)."
There is no page for American Episcopal Church (AEC). This may be because (AEC) is used by the Anglican Episcopal Church (AEC) And this statement of negotiations are not cited, so I do not know if it is a typo.
Meanwhile, to add to the confusion, there is a redirect set up from the phrase "American Episcopal Church" to Episcopal Church (United States) (which has only ever been TEC or PECUSA).
I don't know if it makes sense to have a redirect for such a general query, since there are so many flavors of a "Episcopal" / "Anglican" in "America" ... but I do not know about redirects. If someone else wants to do that, it's fine with me.
In any case, the info box says
| Merger of | American Episcopal Church and approximately 1/3 of the parishes of the Anglican Catholic Church |

which may be true, but it gets redirected to Episcopal Church (United States) which has never merged with the ACC, or anyone else.
So my solution is going to be to disable the link in the info box and leave a comment about it. I don't want to change the link to Anglican Episcopal Church (AEC) because I don't know if that was the intended group. But it sure should not link to Episcopal Church (United States) • Bobsd • (talk) 00:29, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
