αὐξάνω

I was surprised to see αὐξάνω in the list for the "double nu" progressive aspect marker, as there is clearly only one nu. In λαμβάνω the mu clearly counts as a nu, and in τυγχάνω and λαγχάνω we know that gamma plus any velar consonant produces a "nu" sound. αὐξάνω presents neither of these possible explanations. Indeed, on page 174 Curtius explains that there are "two subdivisions" of this class, one "in which the stem-syllable is itself nasalised" (i.e., 2ν); second, "those in which -ανω is added to an unchanged stem". He places αὐξάνω in this second category (pg. 175), implying that it should be moved to the "single nu" marker list directly above. Mousebelt (talk) 06:49, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
