Talk:An open scholarship

Explanation? edit

Apologies if I'm misunderstanding this. But aren't there hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people who have won an open scholarship? What makes these few people (confusingly listed in alphabetical order of their first name) special? And what is the Comics Grid singled out for? The award it received seems rather niche, sponsored by the Canadian Social Knowledge Institute. "An open scholarship" doesn't seem to me to be a viable subject for an article. • "listed in alphabetical order of their first name"
difficult to sort by last name, many pages thus sort this way...
  • this is about the use of the same words, in a different sense, undefined, on 100s of wikipedia pages
  • Open Scholarship is about "open source" academic research

I'm really sorry, I don't understand. You are right - "an open scholarship" is used as a term in many biographical pages of subjects who attended further education - but you don't explain or clarify its use any more here. Those you list are students who have won an open scholarship to specific institutions. As I said, there must be hundreds of thousands of them, why pick out these few? (And no reason I can think of to provide a "complete" list, were that possible). The Collins Dictionary definition you cite as a reference - "a scholarship which anyone can apply for" - is actually all that's really needed to explain the term, and doesn't need a page of its own, in my opinion. That's already covered in the Scholarship page.
The Open Science page is about a different subject altogether, about open access to scientific research, and they use the term in a different way, for a different purpose. That article probably shouldn't have a redirect from "Open Scholarship" - I'll look into that. If the Comics Grid reference is relevant to Open Science but not to an open scholarship, then it shouldn't be on this page. Sfjohna (talk) 10:45, 11 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I forgot the "not to be confused with" hatnote template name .... 0mtwb9gd5wx (talk) 11:09, 11 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Open Scholarship now redirects to Scholarship, which is much more relevant than Open Science Sfjohna (talk) 11:27, 11 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please see Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Qcne (talk) 11:20, 11 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
What Qcne (talk) said. I'm willing to believe this effort was in good faith, but it's still not encyclopedic; it'd be better, imho, to redirect this term to scholarship. Her Pegship (?) 18:49, 12 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
