This is a contested technical request (permalink). —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 08:08, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Much better known as Avrich's biography of de Cleyre than by the title "An American Anarchist", which also introduces ambiguity. The linked subtitles guideline recommends using the full title with subtitle as a form of natural disambiguation. czar 22:21, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Support – the subtitle isn't being used "as a form of natural disambiguation" here because there's nothing to disambiguate, i.e. nothing else notable known by this name. We're not required to consider, when titling articles, all possible things with a given name, just those that are covered in the encyclopaedia. So the subtitle can be omitted (in which case a hatnote for American Anarchist would doubtless be useful). – Arms & Hearts (talk) 16:47, 18 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's disambiguating from "an American anarchist", which is a common phrase but the natural dab point aside, the full title is still the most common one. Per the sources, most will search for this title as Avrich's de Cleyre book, not as "An American Anarchist". This is a case where the subtitle is important to identifying the subject. czar 14:43, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Czar, this one needs the full name to distinguish it from similarly named pages and phrases. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:46, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
