This article needs to be expanded. Additional information on the political controversy around the legislation, the process of entrenching the legislation in the constitution (including reference to the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords), and linguistic confrontation in New Brunswick (with reference to the Confederation of Regions Party) should all be included.
