Ampthill Tunnel edit

In this article it is stated that Ampthill tunnel has three bores, whereas in the Ampthill Tunnel article, the tunnel is described as having two bores. I seem to remember two, but maybe I'm mistaken. Anybody? Everybody got to be somewhere! (talk) 22:26, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

According to
  • Yonge, John (2005) [1990]. Jacobs, Gerald (ed.). Railway Track Diagrams 4: Midlands & North West (2nd ed.). Bradford on Avon: Trackmaps. map 2C. ISBN 0 9549866 0 1. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |month= ignored (help)
there are two bores, each having two tracks: the western pair are the fast lines, and the eastern pair are the slow. However, I see that the entry on this article where it states "increased to three bores when the line was upgraded to four tracks in 1891" is referenced, so it would be worth somebody who has that book checking it out. Possibly these tunnels have been confused with others: there were several instances of three tunnels for four tracks, such as Linslade Tunnel (between Leighton Buzzard and Bletchley). --Redrose64 (talk) 23:33, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

History Section edit

Part of the second para in the station's History section reads:

"At the time it was built there were no coaching connections, so for a number of years it was particularly beneficial in providing an outlet for the trade in straw hats, Ampthill's speciality being the "Narrow Improved" version. "

is there some information missing that would make sense of this? Andywebby (talk) 17:16, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I can't find evidence that any clarifying text has been removed - near-identical text appears in the original version; the only change to this text was a spelling correction (partcularly→particularly). --Redrose64 (talk) 17:52, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I suppose the problem I had on first read is that there are too many unidentified 'its' in this section. I presume the first 'it' refers to Ampthill railway station and that the 'no coaching connections' refer to a lack of highway transport links between Ampthill and the rest of the country? The second 'it' presumably is a goods/parcels service from the railway station? Andywebby (talk) 22:52, 26 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
