Talk:Amphibious vehicle

Is the Gibbs Company really relevant to all categories, reads like promotion? I suspect all references to it were added at the same time, by the same source, and should probably be removed. It is especially out of place when talking about historical vehicles, then jumping to 2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.220.86.182 (talk) 17:17, 30 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Rwo of the most famous is the Hanns Trippel and VW 166 "Schwimmwagen".

Right word? edit

Amphibious vehicles are slowly being supplanted by air cushion vehicles, such as hovercraft, in many modern militaries. At first I thought supplanted but a mispelling of supplemented but checked and there is a word supplanted which means chiefly of things: To take the place of, succeed to the position of, supersede.[1]. I still wonder whether supplemented would be more appropriate as that would mean that hovercraft were used in addition to wheeled amphibious vehicles rather than replacing them completely? Perhaps just being too pedantic. --jmb 09:05, escalope 8h43 mardi 4 nov 2014

Confused focus edit

This article is written as if it originally covered military vehicles, and civilian coverage was added in, or vice versa - it's hard to tell which without checking the history first. Alos, there are so many major sections that it makes browsing the article a bit cumbersome. Splitting it into military and civilian article is one way to help this, but not the only way. Addition of tank material edit

Sorry to drop in the (dubiously written) amphibious tank material into your very well written article, but I am desperately trying to clean up tank and I think this is the correct home for it. Please edit and shred as necessary / desired. Dhatfield (talk) 09:48, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions edit

Suggest you mention the Wisconsin Duck Tours located in the Wisconsin Dells. Also, I would appreciate the addition of the WWII amphibious Alligator. 295th (talk) 10:46, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

RodeDawg Defunct edit

The reference to RodeDawg implies they are still around but the two links are no longer valid. Not sure how it played into their demise, but they were hit by a stock market pump-and-dump that caused trading to be suspended. The history and demise of RodeDawg International Industries, Inc. (RWGI) would make an interesting page of its own, including the endorsement (in exchange for stock) by rapper "Ice T" (http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Rodedawg-International-Industries-Inc-681042.html), the temporary suspension of trading due to the pump-and-dump (http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/articles/2007/03/sec.html), the SEC charging CEO (Luis E. Pallais) and company with issuing false press releases (http://www.404.gov/litigation/litreleases/2008/lr20762.htm), and Mr. Pallais personal bankruptcy filing.

Screws edit

There should be a section for Screw-propelled vehicle. Some of them are amphibious(like the Ice Challenger) and some of them have "real" uses. (just saw one on blocket.se that have been used for lake liming)--83.185.78.188 (talk) 21:23, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Land Rover image edit

Caption edited to replace 'oil drums used as floats' with 'inflatable floats' since they are dedicated flotation bags, not oil drums. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.187.125 (talk) 22:52, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
