Some clarifications to the article:

The current organization is named American Gold Star Mothers. There is great confusion between the terms American Gold Star Mother (AGSM) and Gold Star Mother (GSM).

When a mother's child is killed in battle she automatically becomes a Gold Star Mother and is awarded a Gold Star Pin by the Secretary of Defense. This is usually handled by the casualty officer. The designation GSM and the pin have no connection at all to AGSM. AGSM does not award the pin or confir the status of GSM.

The GSM may wish to join the private organization, AGSM which she may do if she meets the conditions of membership. Many of the current members are mothers of Vietnam era soldiers and are now in their 60's and 70's. There are now more members joining from the recent actions in the war on terror. Hopefully their ranks will remain small.

I've added a redirect from American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.. As the Gold Star Mothers Club is technically not the true name of hte association, would it be best to rename the article? I don't think so, given that more people will search for GSMC, not the other. Still, it's a point worth bringing up. Consequentially 00:25, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

I am the webmaster for AGSM but not a member so I've been told that I am not the appropriate person to edit this page. I have added these comments here in the hope that someone will update the page to more accurately reflect the organization. My main objective is to eliminate the name American Gold Star Mothers Club which has spread throughout the web because of Wiki's authority. Thanks in advance for any help. There are no references indicating where the author found the name Gold Star Mothers Club (GSMC). All Google references lead back to the Wiki page. What was the original source of the name GSMC?

The article describes the organization American Gold Star Mothers, Inc (AGSM), 2128 Leroy Place, NW, Washington, DC 20008. As far as I know there is no organization named the Gold Star Mothers Club. It's possible such an organization existed in the past, possibly during WWII or shortly after when there were many local Gold Star type organizations.

This Wiki page should be eliminated and the corrected information placed on the existing Wiki page for AGSM.

The article should contain a link to the organizations web site: http://www.goldstarmoms.com.

The article should explain the differences between the terms "gold star mother", "Gold Star Mother" and "American Gold Star Mother(s)" since these are used interchangeably and confusingly by the public.

The article should indicate that AGSM is a private membership organization.

The article overemphasizes the service flag which has its own Wiki page. However, if the service flag is mentioned the following should be noted: The example shown is not a regulation flag. Although there are many "service flags" made by well intended folks at home, there is a specification for the flag, it can be legally made only by authorized manufacturers. Founding of the Gold Star Mothers The discussion of the founding of the organization is more lengthy and interesting than that shown. Since I suspect that Wiki may not consider the organization authoritative on this point you'll have to search the reference material for the details. Gold Star Mothers Today The discussion of who is eligible for membership is inaccurate. Also, other than husbands qualify for associate membership. Since the organization itself should be authoritative on this point I suggest you see the organizations statement at: http://www.goldstarmoms.com/Join/Requirements/Requirements.htm.

There are no "members at large". Members not assigned to any other chapter are assigned to the Grace Darling Seibold chapter in Wash DC.

The range of activities engaged in by "the moms" (that's what they call themselves) is greater than described. Emotional support, while important, is not the major emphasis of the group. See an organization called TAPS (http://www.taps.org) which does concentrate on emotional support and which AGSM recommends for those that need such support.

Ligaya Lagman was never rejected. If you are going to mention this story you should cover it properly. Read the local (to Ms Lagman) newspaper articles of the period and get the organizations side also.

Controversy This discussion is very old news and has no relevance with Ms Clinton out of the presidential race. It wasn't controversial at the time either since NewsMax, not a particularly reliable source, was pretty much the only one that covered it.

Gold Star Mothers Club → American Gold Star Mothers – The suggested name is the official name of the organization (minus the "Inc." per WP:NCCORP). There is no indication that the organization is more commonly known as "Gold Star Mothers Club". Note that someone saying they are the webmaster of the organization said previously on the Talk page that the article is named incorrectly, saying "There are no references indicating where the author found the name Gold Star Mothers Club (GSMC). All Google references lead back to the Wiki page. What was the original source of the name GSMC?". No one has responded with any indication that this person was wrong, and that comment was made more than seven years ago. Although the article title is "Gold Star Mothers Club", this term is not used inside the article itself, and I believe it has not been used in the article for a long time – specifically, since this edit seven years ago. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:47, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
