TV-PG/TV-14 issue

Do you know why the ratings change between TV-PG and TV-14 on America's Got Talent? I think the third semifinals is rated TV-14 because the content of a qualified act might be inappropriate for children. --Bigtop (tk|cb|em|ea) 16:47, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, there was a change to TV-14, but I can't pick out the offending act specifically. It could have been Kenny Shelton, who juggled with flaming balls (no, not those, I don't have a dirty mind LOL), or it could have been the presence of five bikini-clad women accompanied by Nathan Burton.--Desmond Hobson 16:19, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I would hazard a guess it's been professional burlesque dancer (and world champion) Michelle L'amour's performances, which often feature clips of children in the audience covering their eyes. Theme song

I just removed the reference to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire from the description of theme song. I personally don't hear it in the theme; however, the song that precedes the announcement of the results may sound like the Millionaire theme. The show states that you are only allowed to vote 10 times by each method.(as in, ten times by phone and another ten on the internet), should this voting limit be mentioned in the article? US-centric References.

I've removed one of the items in the "notes" section, the one regarding how Tom Green & Cirque du Soleil are Canadian. The statement overall was very US-centric, on top of being factually inaccurate with the phrase "not America". Canada is clearly part of North America. "America's Got Talent", at face value, would thus include Canada and Mexico, at least.

However, I do not know for certain that the show, its producers, the network, or whatever has never explicitly made it clear that they mean "The United States"; if someone else knows better and wants to put that in or put this note back, I'm not really emotionally tied to it :) Kutulu 17:55, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Although there is nothing in the rules of the show that limits contestants to United States citizens or residents, all the auditions were held in the United States, so it appeared to seek contestents that lived close to these major cities. The show does leave the meaning of 'America' ambiguous during the show and in its marketing, apparently so that it can broadcast the show throughout North America, but to a citizen of the United States, there would be no question that 'America' refers exclusively to the United States. I actually would prefer to remove this piece of trivia. These were guest performers on the show, not contestants. Should it really matter that all guest stars on a show that has "America" in the name be American (from the United States)? For example, Shakira, Rod Stewart, and Andrea Bocelli, among others were not originally from the US, yet they performed on the most recent season of American Idol. Winner

There was a statement that (and I paraphrase) many people didn't believe the winner deserved to win. This may be true, and may even be a useful thing to include in the article, but does not belong in the list of facts where it was listed. A better way to include this information, if indeed it is true(I have never seen the show and have no idea what everyone thinks) would be to start a section called something like "Controversy over the winner of Season 1" or something similar, and then to write a well referenced piece about whatever controversy that may have existed.Transcendentalstate 20:49, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

In The article for America's Got Talent 2, Jerry Springer is listed as Country of Origin: USA along with an American flag. Although he is an American citizen his country of origin is Great Britain, significant as Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan are also British.

About the Criticism section..

Reorder Season 2 section

I think that it would look better if the season 2 list was reordered so that it went:

• Acts Eliminated (from Top 10)
• Acts Eliminated (from Top 8)
• Acts Remaining (Final Four)

Rather then the current order, which is reversed. I think that this order which is more to less is much more clear and 'natural'. Judging Styles

I marked the Judging Styles section with a "cleanup" tag because I felt that there was no flow and the section weaved between the two seasons like yarn in a sweater. Prize

Shouldn't there be something in the article about the prize money? The $1M prize is mentioned twice, but without any description of the obvious cost-cutting measure that the producers have taken, namely that the prize is to be received in 40 equal installments over 40 years. Nuttin' But Stringz sales claim

In the "top selling albums" section it is claimed that Nuttin' But Stringz have an album that sold 1,000,000 copies. There are several problems with this claim. Firstly, the sub-header refers to it as a "CRIA certified album". CRIA is the Canadian agency, so they could not certify American sales figures, as another subheader claims. Secondly, there is something very peculiar about the claim that the album has sold 1,000,000 copies, yet it did not even chart at all. That seems unlikely. Thirdly, the basis for the claim that it sold 1,000,000 copies is that this is the minimum number required to be a platinum seller, and there is a link to a source that supposedly supports the claim that the album went platinum. But the source does no such thing. It simply calls the group "Platinum Selling". It does not make a specific reference the any album. Maybe the status "Platinum Selling" is a result of a platinum selling single. Maybe it is the result of platinum status in some other country than the US. The source does not say and so cannot be counted as a source saying they sold 1,000,000 albums. Fourthly, the "source" is the headline in a press release by a health organization, not a music industry source. So how they would know Nuttin' But Stringz sales figures is unclear. Fifth, and finally, the RIAA website returns no information at all about Nuttin' But Stringz sales. If they really had sold 1,000,000 copies of a single album in the US, surely it would have this information. In the end it seems the claim that they sold 1,000,000 albums is an unwarranted inference from an unreliable source, and so this claim should be removed from the page. 99.192.83.125 (talk) 02:44, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

I expect this season to be similar to Season 4, so I suggest only a round chart for the final round of competition. Piers Morgan work till 2013

Nope, it's not a typo. We don't have a valid source that says these artists do have RIAA-certified albums, so, until we find the sources, they must be listed under "without RIAA-certified albums". Gamer9832 (talk) 03:35, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Las Vegas Show & Tour

Is there additional information about the subsequent Las Vegas Show and Tour for each of the seasons and participants? I.E. I don't think they've announced where the show/tour will be held this year, but it ran in 2009 at planet hollywood (show only), 2010 at caesar's palace for the show, along with a national tour, both with Jerry Springer hosting. I'm pretty sure they both featured the top 10 acts from each season. I am not sure which cities were featured along the tour or how long it lasted, but will get back to you on that. Article biased towards musical acts?

Not really. We could also have a section on awards won by other contestants in different genres, but no one has looked into researching and adding that to the page yet. Singers are the only acts we've found awards for, so it's not a bias. Gamer9832 (talk) 23:16, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism of Judge's tenure

There have bee three recent attempts to introduce errors into this article. [1] [2] [3] Interestingly, it has been logged-on users inserting the bad information, and mostly IP address users who have corrected the vandalism. Infobox is a state

Can we please sort the infobox out at the side please. Firstly, the "present" part for the judges is completely unnecessary and makes the entire thing look untidy: we have a longer slash which represents that the person is ongoing and present, it doesn't need the physical word. Secondly, like every other talent show page, the judges should be listed in chronological order based on who's active and who's inactive. Active judges should be first on the list with oldest at the top to newest, then inactive judges with oldest at the top down to newest. At the moment it looks horrible and the inconsistency with other entertainment show degrades it even more. JackJackUK (talk) 19:49, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

First of all, presenters and judges of all shows should be listed in chronological order beginning with the first people assocated with the show to who is on it now. That only makes sense. It looks very confusing to the reader how it stands right now. Another point is the years should be listed fully. For example as it stands now 2009-11, some people might not understand what that 11 stands for, not only does it not make sense but it makes the rest of the information look very sloppy to the eye. How many more times do I need to say that they were listed in chronological order based on who's active and who's inactive. The first thing people should see is who's CURRENTLY on the show. You do not need the 'present' part, anyone will know that a longer slash means they are ongoing anyway. It does not look confusing whatsoever, so stop using nonsense arguments because it follows the same, exact same, format as EVERY other talent show page. People are going to know that the 11 means 2011, it does not need the whole thing. For example, when you write a date such as 06/07/11, you shorten it mostly. So sorry to suggest that is just wrong.
