I'm really unexperienced at editing Wikipedia, but I am passionate about getting info out about the Alur language. If someone could please fix the nasal row in the pulmonic consonant table, I'd greatly appreciate it. According to various Wikipedia articles, Alur is a dialect of the Southern Luo language. — AjaxSmack 18:41, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Suppport. I don't know anything about the area, but a google books search for "Alur language" returns two orders of magnitude more hits than "Alur dialect", and "language" is the term used in the titles of the works in the bibliography available on glottolog. So, if there aren't any overriding cultural and socio-political considerations to the contrary, the article's title should be "Alur language". – Uanfala 20:40, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Support. If you ask an alur-speaker what language they speak, they'll say "alur". Language survey professionals regard this as important. The other key question is "Who speaks your language best?" and that would also support this being a language, rather than a dialect. Mutual intelligibility is relatively unimportant; On the Germany-Netherlands border, German and Dutch are mutually intelligible, but they're still separate languages.
