Live footage? edit

Does anyone know if the series really used live footage of actual veterinary procedures? If it can be verified, it ought to be mentioned, but I haven't found anything definitive. Still, in some of these episodes there's footage of things like lambings that look incredibly real (I can't believe they had the special effects budget to fake it in the late 1970s), and it looks to me as though it is the actual actors there physically working with the animals. I figure if anyone can show this is true, it's worthy of note. Jwrosenzweig (talk) 22:19, 16 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it would be interesting to know how the shots were arranged and what the actors had to go through - including pre-filming training and so on. It played a big part in the series. Might be worth a mention here as it could be unique in a television series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.156.53.234 (talk) 14:04, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Director ? edit

The infobox shows Peter Grimwade as director - but surely there were lots of directors ? -- Beardo (talk) 16:43, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mr Grimsdale edit

Bryan Pringle played alongside Norman Wisdom in the film "The Early Bird". In the same film Edward Chapman played the character "Mr Grimsdale". So in All Creatures Great and Small is the name for Mr Grimsdale, played by Bryan Pringle, a nod to the character in the Norman Wisdom films? Honeybadger69 (talk) 07:38, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

List of filming locations edit

I started to compile a list of the series’ outdoor filming locations last year. I have not yet finished but decided to put it temporarily into my user namespace today: de:Benutzer:Kreuzschnabel/Herriot_Locations (notes in German, table in English for better international reuse). There are still some gaps, which might be filled with your help ;-), and where do we put it afterwards? --Kreuzschnabel (talk) 21:03, 25 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Too Dense edit

The article is dense and inaccessible with no pithy summary of its subject. SMH — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2D80:ED11:5300:45C6:BD3E:D56E:6BF3 (talk) 04:03, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

More importantly, there are huge chunks that seem to have been copied over from just a couple of published sources. There is already a complaint that this is in breach of copyright in the history, but this seems to have been ignored and reverted. In any case the result is a magazine article not an encyclopedic one. I’ll leave this to see if there’s a discussion, but then propose to do some serious pruning and copy editing. All Memories Great and Small edit

If it is indeed the author complaining that referenced quotes from his book are being used in the article, then he was only too happy to try to advertise the book upon its release. - Seasider53 (talk) 21:10, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Not trying to justify that, but it doesn’t mean anyone other than the author can lift large chunks from the book. I’ve proposed doing a pruning, above. Matruman (talk) 21:53, 14 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
