Notability edit

Vaypertrail keeps adding the notability template because there aren't "3rd party articles covering it". For his benefit, here are some Google search results: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8].

These are not used for citations in the article because they are inherently less reliable than official sources. Those I have read also contain fewer details than the Steam pages. If you really think that an article on Kotaku is required before Wikipedia covers a subject, Vaypertrail, you should look it up and add it yourself instead of slapping a template on the page and expecting someone else to do the (very, very minor!) legwork. --Tom Edwards (talk) 07:41, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Mods edit

Mods are an integral part of this game and therefore, a link to the only mods site on the internet for the game is a justifiable edit. Many people have expressed their hapiness with the link on our forums so the removal is unnecessary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.253.250.233 (talk) 04:05, 26 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't matter how many people want the link in the article. It's a fansite, and fansites are to be avoided per the WP:FANSITE guideline I linked. Looking at it from another angle, I don't see the website offering any insight that the article doesn't. With this particular fansite being focused on modding only, I don't see what the point of including it here is, apart from self-promotion. I don't wanna assume too many things here, but are you by chance affiliated with the website, as in a member of it? The reason I'm asking is because of the conflict of interest guidelines. Which wiki do we include? edit

So far, this [9] has been included. Recently, an editor added this[10] in its place. Links to open Wikis are normally to be avoided per WP:ELNO, unless they have "substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors.". Checking both, the first Wiki meets this requirement better than the swarmhub one, so I'm reverting to the old version. Per the same rule, fansites are normally to be avoided, too, unless written by a "recognized authority", so I'm removing the fansite, too. Eik Corell (talk) 16:43, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

While I can understand your argument, I heartily disagree. The Alien Swarm Wiki at SwarmHub is part of the Valve Wiki Network, meaning it is linked to from OverWiki, the Left 4 Dead Wiki and the Official Team Fortress Wiki, thus it has more exposure. Further more, it's also run by a number of people from the Official Team Fortress Wiki, meaning the quality will likely be or is higher. I understand and concede to the removal of the Fan site, but I believe the wiki should stay. 109.181.36.247 (talk) 16:59, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
What sites exactly link this new wiki? I need the links to see whether or not they could call for an exception to the normal rules regarding wikis. Eik Corell (talk) 17:21, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sure. [half-life.wikia.com/ Combine OverWiki], well known and accepted Half Life 2 wiki. [left4dead.wikia.com Left 4 Dead Wiki]. And the Official Team Fortress Wiki recognised by Valve. Good enough? 109.181.215.81 (talk) 17:33, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry. Required the http:// Combine OverWiki, Left 4 Dead Wiki and Official Team Fortress Wiki. 109.181.100.54 (talk) 17:41, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
We use the most reliable source which is the Wikia site. I don't care about the "Valve Wiki Network" that has no standing here. The Wikia site is a more complete information resource. --Xero (talk) 12:29, 10 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
That is an entirely flawed argument and one based entirely upon your opinion. Please do not remove the wiki. 109.181.155.119 (talk) 01:27, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Unidentified user from Bristol, UK you might want to stop switching your IP address in order to vandalize this page. So far you have used 109.181.211.33, 109.181.155.119, 109.181.114.7, and 109.181.36.247 in order to make regressive edits. The problem with that plan is they all point to the exact same service provider, and you make the same edit each time. --Xero (talk) 02:21, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I would be wary of an IP from Bristol because Smashman, the creator of swarmhub, is from Bristol. If he were replacing the Wikia link with his own site, then he would be violating WP:COI. —LOL T/C 03:28, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I see, and now we have 77.103.162.4 from Surrey making the same regressive edits. How about we compromise. --Xero (talk) 11:30, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Valve Task Force Re-vitalization edit

Attention, all contributors to the Valve Task Force and the articles it constitutes!
I am here to announce that I will be re-vitalizing the Valve Task Force, aimed at universally improving articles constituting Valve Corporation, their employees, associates and products. This specific task force has been dormant for quite some time and with two very notable releases coming out this year, I feel like this is the appropriate time to re-stimulate the general aim of this group. For those who are not already members of the Valve Task Force, feel free to add your name to our members list and contribute to whatever articles you feel your contributions may prove beneficial for. Valve, its products and notable employees have proven to be essential to the progression of the video game industry, so I'd like to make a call of arms for this cause. Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop edit

I'm not sure if the fan sequel meets Wikipedia's notability standards to be mentioned in the article. It's been going strong for about five and a half years now. I'd like to have a section about it, but as I am part of the team making it, I can't add the section due to WP:COI. --BenLubar (talk) 14:48, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

It looks like a mention was added, then immediately reverted. I'm not sure what determines a game's notability, but the game is owned by about 4.6 million players on Steam and has definitely been mentioned by news websites: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22alien+swarm%3A+reactive+drop%22&tbm=nws --BenLubar (talk) 14:53, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Rock Paper Shotgun citation edit

The RPS citation in the Reception section links to an article about Space Station 13 and appears to have been mangled at some point. --BenLubar (talk) 15:00, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
