Notability edit

McCune was a candidate for United States Senate, and was very close to getting elected, this is pretty much automatic notability criteria. He was also one of two candidates for Governor of Utah in the Democrat primary of 1916.John Pack Lambert (talk) 05:05, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please see WP:POLITICIAN. McCune fails that. --moreno oso (talk) 05:09, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
You are wrong. If a member of a legislature is notable, than someone who was nearly elected to a higher office by a legislature, who was the leading candidate for over 140 ballots, would seem to be more notable. He clearly passes the spirit of the rule.John Pack Lambert (talk) 05:43, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • I'd agree that notability is established. The number of third-party sources establishes his importance as a businessman and politician. The article is stubby and has copy-editing issues, which is complicating this. But I would conclude notability is established. - Tim1965 (talk) 00:16, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Copyright Issues edit

To begin with your allegations of cutting and pasting is false. To continue, the text that the article drew heavily from was published in 1916, is not under copyright, and so there can not be a copyright violation with it.John Pack Lambert (talk) 05:43, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Refimprove tag requires citations. Your statement that you "drew" from material from 1916 confirms the copy paste tag. ----moreno oso (talk) 05:46, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Public domain or not, plagiarism is plagiarism if you directly copy. Even if you cite the source, direct quotation without using quotation marks is plagiarism. - Tim1965 (talk) 00:17, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Removal of maintenance tags by article creator edit

The article creator has twice removed maintenance tags without resolving the issues. Additionally, he has performed two reverts and is now subject to 3RR considerations. ----moreno oso (talk) 05:54, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The tag indicating this article was written like a personal essay was added to this article. There is absolutely no justification for that claim. 1) All claims are cited; 2) The article is a statement of facts, not NPOV or original research claims; 3) almost none of the article contains anything other than bland statements about McCune's life, in chronological order. To claim it is unencyclopedic is pure nonsense, and is not justified. - Tim1965 (talk) 00:57, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
