Talks with Old English Cricketers edit
Pullin's famous book Talks with Old English Cricketers is now available online here. JH (talk page) 18:14, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

"His father, having been rector of Tintern,[1] was ordained in 1875 and moved to Yorkshire as a curate." Surely that can't have events in the right order? Shouldn't it be ordained, curate, rector? Also Swanton's description of sharing a pressbox with Pullin seems to me to be worth retaining. JH (talk page) 10:03, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
A few general comments edit
This is a very worthwhile article; I'm pleased to see something which, although strongly themed in cricket, isn't just a career account but tells us something about the lot of the ex-cricketer a century ago, when his day was done. I think the article is still being developed, so I haven't given it a full review, but here are a few general comments/suggestions:
- Per my talkpage, I checked to see if Derek Birley's Social History Of English Cricket made any mention of Pullin and his concerns for destitute cricketers. Unfortunately it doesn't. I think the main problem in bringing this article to featured standard will be lack of reliable sources.
- Here are a few areas of the article in which I think more detail is necessary, assuming that sources can be found:
- Early life – more details of his childhood and schooling, something more on the "family background in rugby union"
- Career details are very light - the section would be better headed "Career summary". Is he mentioned in the memoirs of players other than Hutton?
- Do we have dates for his directorship of Leeds City FC? The club was the centre of a sporting scandal - it got kicked out of the league mid-season, in 1919, because of financial irregularities. Was Pullin involved with the club at the time?
- I'd like some clarification on his "retirement"; he seems to have retired but carried on working. Perhaps he continued on a freelance basis?
More generally, I think the lead will need to be expanded to meet FAC requirements, and it would be nice to have at leadt one more image. Brianboulton (talk) 19:42, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
