Added in a references tag to this article because of the fact that it offers no evidence that Smith's "extra flavor" is well-received by audiences - this type of punching up of the dialogue is generally considered a bane of US localization.
- Considered "a bane of US localizations" by who? You can't reasonably say that one generalization is inaccurate by using a similarly vague one as counterpoint. --aniki21 15:34, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- It is considered a bane by those concerned or interested in the intent and content in the original Japanese game. Just as anime has many fans who are against dubbed anime, there are players, particularly of JRPGs, who are keenly interested in a more accurate translation rather than localization. Localization may be more popular than translation with the wider and more casual audience, but there is a sizable fanbase against such things. 24.32.114.135 (talk) 14:24, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm about to remove the only "reference" this BLP has; this is not from a reliable source and is clearly a fan review. The review does mention the translator, and I thought I'd place a quote from that review here, for posterity's sake:
Alexander O. Smith is a name that should be noted. It's the name of the man responsible for the flawless translation; it is one of Square's finest to date thanks to him. Yes, that is correct, I said "to date". It's not just another word-for-word translation; they pulled out all the stops for this one. It's up there next to Shakespeare's sonnets. I'm not just saying that, it's uses old english and the way it does it is just great.
