Error edit

On the article about the SILVER DART, Paragraph 3 Line 7 has an error ... see below.

Excerpt from Paragraph 3 ... Lines 6-7-8.

machine, the Silver Dart, constructed in 1908, made the first controlled powered flight in Canada on February 23, 1908 when it was flown off the ice of Bras d'Or Lake near Baddeck by McCurdy who had been one of its designers. [1]

Error is in line 7. The Silver Dart made its First Flight in 1909 ... not 1908.

Thank you,

Quote in footnote edit

There's a bit of a discussion about the allowable length of quotes in footnotes here. The quote in the WP footnote leaves me a bit concerned, however, I've left it intact for the following reasons:

  • As a 1908 source, it should be PD, so infringing on copyright should not be an issue
  • It isn't that long, so it is hard to imagine that it would fail legal tests, even if still in copyright . That said WP rules are deliberately more stringent than the law.
  • The source isn't online, so it is a convenience to the user to show a relevant quote, rather than expecting a user to track down a 1908 version of the Washington Post.
  • I open to the possibility that it doesn't meet User:Moonriddengirl's suggested rule " there should be clear reason why we need to", so I am open to alternative views.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 19:29, 20 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Considering that that source has nothing to do with the sentence it references (a 1908 quote for a 1909 fact?), I wonder why it is even there. Apart from that; the lengthy title of the article contains all revelvant information, the quote is more or less a duplication of it, so not needed. Tangential, but aren't wikilinks in ref titles discouraged? Fram (talk) 07:51, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
See alternative solution in making the lengthy passage a note to readers with a cite. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 18:03, 24 February 2012 (UTC).Reply
