Article Rename Proposal edit

This is a fine little knot, but it conflicts with a much more common knot also called the Adjustable Hitch (ABoK #1800) AKA the Taut-line Hitch. I've been making some improvements to the Taut-line hitch article which includes disambiguating all the various versions of it, of which the Adjustable Hitch is one... So I'd like to change the name of this article to "Adjustable Grip Hitch", which appears to be its "real" name according to the website it came from. (I've been as yet unable to find reference to it elsewhere.)

My plan, once I make the change, is putting a redirect for Adjustable hitch pointing at Taut-line hitch. And I will also add Adjustable Grip Hitch to the See Also section of the Taut-line hitch, to give this nifty knot a little promotion.  :) --Dfred 03:34, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Completed rename from "Adjustable hitch" to "Adjustable grip hitch". --Dfred 00:27, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Another potential name is "Ajustable Loop". This is the name used for this knot at page 197 in The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Knots and Ropework, by Geoffrey Budworth, ISBN 1-84309-138-0. 24.91.15.147 (talk) 20:26, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some updating needed edit

It seems to me that there's a reference cited. Shouldn't the banner be removed? There are also a number of misspellings noted (including within references); I'm not fixing them, now. Nikevich (talk) 21:37, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

ABoK #1994? edit

I just checked ABoK - this is not #1994, nor any number near that (didn't check all knots :). I had the impression that the adjustable grip hitch was relatively new, so I didn't expect it to be in ABoK anyway... I'll remove the ABoK number. 79.218.243.4 (talk) 14:17, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cawley Hitch? edit

Can't find much on that name. Can someone point to a source for that name? --Buz11 (talk) 19:00, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Strong similarity to ABoK #1231 edit

I was reading up on binding knots today, and spotted that the Ashley Book of Knots #1231 is very similar in structure to the adjustable grip hitch! It differs in prescribed application, with #1231 is being suggested primarily as a variation of the Jamming knot rather than an adjustable hitch; but differs in structure solely in the final crossing, which enters through the 'twist' so to speak rather than finishing with a half hitch.

Thus far the first actual comparison of #1231 and the adjustable grip hitch is in this site here, where it talks about the 'grapple hitch' a little ways down. The author discovered their own favored adjustable hitch, thought it very similar to ('close cousin') to the adjustable grip hitch, and notes that their hitch is a rediscovery of #1231 (where applied as a jamming knot) and #1471 (where applied as an adjustable bend).

The adjustable grip hitch definitely shouldn't be documented as #1231 or #1471, but I think it'd be worthy to document them as variations on this page. 2601:405:8400:283:D49C:A020:7E81:50FA (talk) 07:35, 18 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and I'll also note that said page is a little inadequate, people aware of it hold its strongest claims under criticism (and again here too if you search 'grapple hitch' in the article comments), but it does seem to be correct at the very least in noting the close relation of the adjustable grip hitch and #1231. 2601:405:8400:283:D49C:A020:7E81:50FA (talk) 07:46, 18 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
