Value Judgement edit

Before all you wiki busy bodies start targeting this page for demise you should think of the following information. Rowing is an amateur sport that, unlike football, does not have a ‘professional’ league. Instead individuals compete in the club's colours for positions in state and national squads. In this sense the Adelaide Uni Boat Club is very notable as it is home to many of the current state team youth and open age rowers (Youth Eight and Kings Cup Eight national championship teams). It is also the club for Olympic and world champions (Kate Slatter - Amber Halliday etc). This was the case for other University clubs that have been deleted. I feel you have presented a value judgement in their case that was ill informed. Not all top sporting clubs have to pay money to members for them to be notable. In this case the AUBC is one of the most notable clubs in Australia and the world. Ozdaren 22:39, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:AUBCLogo.JPG edit

Image:AUBCLogo.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 17:10, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability edit

I don't think this club is notable enough to be on Wikipedia. Please read the Wikipedia guideline on notability, it says, "Within Wikipedia, Notability is an article inclusion criterion based on encyclopedic suitability" and "A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." I had a quick look on the internet and was unable to find any sources like this for the club. If sources like this can't be found I suggest this article gets merged with another article. If sources aren't found within 2 weeks I will start the deletion process. Username nought 09:32, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

[1],[2], [3]. Mate, this is getting tiresome. First it was the supposed lack of references, now you reckon it's not notable? The AUBC competes at the highest level in three echelons of competition - state, university and national - with gold medals at all three levels regularly over the last fifty years. Members of the club have represented Australia at international level - indeed 5 olympic medals would rival any club in australia. To put it in perspective, the skill level of many senior members of the club would be roughly the equivalent of, say, the Adelaide Crows. Modern rowing exists very much outside of the media spotlight; that in no way diminishes the notability of the clubs at the forefront of the sport.--Yeti Hunter 10:37, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kate Elizabeth Slatter edit

I've created a page on Kate Slatter. There are some more details I can add later on. I'm not sure if I want to turn it into a full blown biography page. Ozdaren 13:52, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
