Talk:Abbey Cheese Company

Notability edit

Another user placed a notability and refimprove template on the article. A second removed them stating that notability has been established. I reapplied them because I don't feel that notability has been established and I'll explain below.

At this point, the only inclusion guideline that I feel that one can claim is satisfied is WP:GNG. There are two references that supply significant coverage and both appear to be reliable sources of information. My concern is that one is not independent of the subject of the article. The "Bord Bia Irish Cheese Booklet" is printed by the Irish Food Board whose stated objective is "to develop markets for Irish suppliers and to bring the taste of Irish food to more tables world-wide." To me, this constitutes a tie between the organization and the subject of this article. Furthermore, the coverage in the reference is given as a means of advertisement for the Abbey Cheese Company (among other companies).

As this is the case, I don't see that the reference can be used to established notability per WP:GNG meaning there's not "significant coverage in reliable sourceS that are independent of the subject."

I think that {{notability}} can be established by providing {{Morereferences}} or that the templates still have merit. OlYeller21Talktome 22:14, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I was very close to nominating the article for A7 as the article makes no claim to significance. If the article is not updated soon I will probably go to WP:AfD. Mtking (edits) 22:19, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ya, it was previously deleted per A7 and recreated with the two references. I could see it being deleted per A7 again but I personally consider seemingly independent references that aren't obviously adverts (links to PRNewsWire) to be a claim of importance. Not everyone does though.
I would probably support deletion at an AfD as I'm already not seeing any Google News or Googles News Archive hits. Obviously, I'd do more research beforing !voting, though. I'm also concerned about the other similar articles being created by the same user. We may need to look into a multi-article AfD. OlYeller21Talktome 22:27, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
