Talk:AOL Broadband

Latest comment: 7 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

AOL (a United States company) and AOL Broadband (a United Kingdom company, owned by The Carphone Warehouse) are two entirely different companies, albeit with similar names. To merge AOL with AOL Broadband would be no different from merging Austria with Australia. (Qwerta369 (talk) 19:38, 14 August 2009 (UTC))Reply

Just in response to Bo98's comment "AOL UK and AOL Broadband are not entirely different. In Jan 2007 Carphone Warehouse rebranded AOL UK to AOL Broadband. (discuss in talk page))". This is not correct and so the edit has been reverted. The Carphone Warehouse bought the UK broadband business from AOL Inc. in the United States. AOL UK Ltd (who provide the AOL content in the UK and whose website is aol.co.uk) was not sold. AOL UK Ltd remains a separate company from AOL Broadband (aolbroadband.co.uk), the latter now being no more than a trading name of TalkTalk Telecom PLC, following the separation of TalkTalk from the Carphone Warehouse. The article is confusing because of the lack of distinction between AOL, AOL UK, AOL Europe and AOL Broadband all of which are different entities. Also, this mixes discussion around internal management change at AOL Europe & AOL UK with discussion about AOL Broadband which is different - as stated above was a marketing brand used to market the Internet access business bought from AOL in 2006. This article also neglects to mention the creation and growth of the access business prior to the purchase by Carphone Warehouse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.236.4.12 (talk) 14:08, 10 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
