Rails removed? edit

The lead paragraph is confusing... It says that the railroad no longer reaches Apalachicola because "the rails have been removed between Franklin and Apalachicola." However, this statement is not sourced, and:

  • 1. It also says the railroad serves Port St. Joe, which is beyond Apalachicola.
  • 2. Satellite / Street View imagery shows the rails in place as recently as 2019 (see Google Maps/Earth/etc.)
  • 3. I can't find a place called "Franklin, FL" (although Apalachicola is in Franklin County).
  • 4. The length of the line is the same as its predecessor (96 miles), which would indicate that the line has not been shortened.

I'm really not sure what AN is even moving at this point; the Arizona Chemical plants in Port St. Joe closed in 2009 (http://www.portofportstjoe.com/Adopted%20Port%20Master%20Plan%202013%20May%2023%202013.pdf) and the only other source of revenue I could identify from aerial imagery is a pulpwood yard that also appeared to be out of business. But based on the satellite imagery, the line actually appears well-maintained despite there being little to no business on the line.

Google Street View shows that the shop buildings in Port St. Joe were heavily wind damaged at some point between 2013 and 2019 (most likely as a result of Hurricane Michael in 2018) and there is no rolling stock visible in the shop yard, so it's not unlikely the rails are "out of service", but they have clearly not been "removed". 67.8.203.16 (talk) 16:16, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
