PowerXpress edit
Does anyone know if PowerXpress will be available on desktops, too? Is PowerXpress worth an own article?
- PowerXpress is similar to hybrid SLI, why should PowerXpress be treated as a standalone article if the similar technology deserves only a subsection? At most, the PowerXpress should be put in ATI CrossFire article. As a reminder, hybrid SLI supports desktop platform, while AMD/ATI had not confirm any plans for desktop platform, but you can see ATI has already got a patent for that to happen, see the section. --202.71.240.18 13:23, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
HDMI edit

ASUS M3A78-CM does not match article edit

The reception section edit
Looks like to me that it's only the "reception" of some credible IT websites who were referenced in the section, so as their readers.
No matter what are those arguments, unless this chipset series' reception is reflected on the "AMD platform chipset" market share trend or similar findings, otherwise I don't see the need for such section, this is not a place for someone's thought, even it's convey by any IT websites staff(s), no matter those sites are credible or not, even the argument is NPOV or not. --203.218.208.222 (talk) 18:32, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
- Every article should have real-world context, and for consumer goods that includes information about how the product was received. Commentary from reputable critics is one of the best ways to get that information. This is one facet of computer hardware articles that are really lacking on Wikipedia, and is why few if any ever reach GA status, let alone FA where this information is required to meet comprehensiveness. Articles should not just be a collection of datasheets, which tell the layman nothing about how well the product actually performed, both in absolute terms and in comparison against its competition. ATI SB700 and PATA edit
Hi- The SB700 does indeed seem to support PATA (via the ATI IXP700 logic). Either I have an early board and AMD stripped out PATA support in later versions of the southbridge, or the article is incorrect. A third remote possibility is that the ITE SuperIO chipset is providing PATA and somehow the PATA_ATIIXP driver is working with it (extremely unlikely, but I'm completely unfamiliar with modern hardware). - That article cited falls under Questionable sources policy since it's promotional in nature, thus it's incorrect and it wouldn't be the first time that it happened on Tom's. In the article the SB700 was only briefly introduced and doesn't provide any references from where the author has got that information, nor does it feature a single mainboard with that sb. All of the mainboards showcased in feature the SB600 sb. Besides, from what it's stated, the SuperIO chip provides a controller only for Floppy, and none for PATA. AMD has published the specs clearly for SB600, but for SB700 I could find only PR stunts. Since all SB700 mainboards can be equipped with a single physical IDE, I can only conclude that it supports one IDE port naively. Em27 (talk) 17:42, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, that seems to be the case. I now have PATA support working with the ATIIXP driver, which leads me to believe that the support is indeed being provided by the SB700 southbridge. It's rare for a chipset manufacturer to vary device support in the same revision of a chipset, so I'd have to assume that all SB700 southbridges support one IDE (PATA) port. Tom's Hardware is a commercial venture and they do have sloppy reporting from time to time, but I've also gotten reliable information from them which is why I was wary to fully question the article outright. I will begin looking for a better reference before I update the page. If someone else finds one in the near future, please post it here or alter the references section in the article. - Just now I've been on Gigabyte's site taking a look at their AM3 790 mainboards and remembered this Talk. Both of their models offer Floppy support through an iTE IT8720F SuperIO chip. My ASUS M3A78 Pro uses iTE's IT8716F chip which means the SB700's don't have Floppy support on their own. However, that Tom's article is still short of explaining or proving for that matter that SB700 doesn't provide Floppy support since they only present SB600 equipped mainboards. Out of date edit

- The out-of-date tag for an article applies to things like current event articles where a lot of information is preliminary. Most of the information in this article is not time-dependent. If you see minor problems like verb tense, simply update it. If you think the release dates are wrong, change them or tag them for citation, as you would if they had been written after the fact. Multi-graphics, et al edit
I rewrote this section, adding a lot of the missing information...This included multiple footnotes & citations. Somehow all the changes were lost, I'm blaming wikiEd for this (anyone but me). There were some broken/self links I fixed too. Well some how the page must have reloaded while I was in another tab, and this is likely how everything was lost. I'm feeling too disappointed to start over. ...probably 25-155 words, but several hours of time.... :(
