Talk:A74(M) and M74 motorways

Untitled edit

Maybe something should be done regarding the status of the M74 motorway's duality with the A74(M) motorway. They should be the same article, certainly - they're the same road - but what about a name that reflects this...?

I noticed as A74(M) was added to the UK Motorways template recently, and links to M74 anyways.

M74 and A74(M) motorways possibly? I don't think M74 only is a fair reflection of that - more than half of the road, the most modern and widest part, is A74(M).

Instead decided to keep the article at M74 motorway, as we all call it that anyway, and make note of the A74(M) numbering anomaly. Erath 10:01, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Scottish Government's 'plans' edit

I've reworded the sentence which stated that the current Scottish Government "has not yet revealed its plans" regarding the M74 renumbering. This is faintly POV as it implies there are plans, as yet unrevealed. There is no evidence that the current Scottish administration has even considered the matter, let alone has plans concerning it.--Stevouk (talk) 13:46, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Junction numbers edit

While doing some checking for OpenStreetMap, I did some digging on the oppening of the M6, and how this might impact on the numbering. In the course of this, I found the following, which leads me to believe that the main source for the numbers here, CBRD, may be inaccurate at the far end. A search for "M74 J23" yields one irrelevant result, while "M74 J22" brings up a few sets of directions that claim that you hit the A75 from it (currently listed as 23 here). Of particular interest is this, which makes reference to a B&B that is accessible between "M6 J44 & M74 J22". Even if you change the search terms, it's difficult to get anything local to own up to there being junctions posted as 23 and 24. On OS maps, the single number 22 appears between the slip roads referred to here as 22 and 23, and Tele Atlas data shows the A75 exit as 22. Google also shows the A75 exit as 22, however it shows the Carlisle-Grenta stretch as M6 already.

Anyone with local knowledge able to sort this out? If we know what's posted on the signs at the exits (photos appreciated), we can then look at sources that would support this. 217.36.107.9 (talk) 15:33, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

M6 and The South? edit

Does the sign that starts the M6 at Gretna or Carlisle say M6 THE SOUTH ? I would have thought that Rugby doesn't count as The South ? ( I realise that 'The Midlands' is never seen on signs.) --LeedsKing (talk) 19:15, 23 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

It means thats where the roads heads towards, not always where it ends. Its a direction, not a location. 90.218.6.184 (talk) 04:35, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page edit

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:
