Hey, what the f*** happened to all of the info here on wikipedia, about the 7 train? All I see is the conductor section, but that's about it. What gives?

I agree that the contents of IRT Flushing Line and 7 need to be rationalized. However, while the two separately exist, it is wrong to put the IRT Flushing Line into Category:New York City Subway services, and it is wrong to put 7 into Category:New York City Subway lines. Services and lines are different things.

There is one example in the Subway project where such a rationalization has been done. The article S - 42nd Street Shuttle (New York City Subway service) describes both the service and the line on which it operates.

It might make sense to do so here, and also for:

• BMT Canarsie Line and L
• BMT Franklin Avenue Line and S - Franklin Avenue Shuttle (New York City Subway service).

Given the broader nature of the issue, you might want to propose a discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York City Subway. In the meantime, it is wrong to exacerbate the issue by putting various duplications into the two articles. Marc Shepherd 17:18, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Is the 7 switching to R142S cars?

I read on the R142S article that the 7 will convert to CBTC operation eventually. Does this mean that the 7 line will be using those modern cars soon (or at all)? If so, when? 69.117.20.134 03:42, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

The 7 will be receiving R188s in a few years (2015-16 at the earliest). The R188s will be a mix of newly-built cars and R142A conversions, and will be CBTC compatible. It should be mentioned, as the R188s have a page. Coasterlover1994 (talk) 01:38, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Picture Change

I think there should be another head picture, instead of the one right now. The "redbirds," the type train in the picture, are no longer used, and have been replaced completely with the R62's. Asiansaxboy101 18:05, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

rolling stock question...

The article on the Steinway Tunnel says the 7 line was originally built as an "interurban" line, and consequently has (had?) a low tunnel and low weight capacity rails. Is this still true? The original tunnels of Boston's Blue Line were originally built for streetcars, and now run (short?) subway cars.

So, were the rails upgraded? Was the tunnel expanded? Does the transit commission run less than full size rolling stock on this line? Geo Swan (talk) 01:30, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

It appears that only IRT services ran through the tunnel, thus there was no incentive to upgrade the tunnel to, say, BMT standards. Virtually all or most of the IRT lines had, and will always have (at least for the foreseeable future) the narrower gauge. Tinlinkin (talk) 04:31, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

new 7 map/r188 order

why had not anybody update a new 7 train map or aleast it shows the extendion to 34 street the map should include details about the shell at 10 avenue. It's really too soon to do that.

It is pretty hard to find Reliable Sources for the 10th Avenue station, because it seems like the Bloomberg administration changes its mind every week about that station. That's why it can't be included yet. The map shows the current service and the stations listing table shows the two additional stations. Acps110 ^{(talk • contribs)} 02:23, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

The NYC subway has express trains. This route has express trains. However it doesn't explain how express trains work differently than regular trains, or how both regular and express trains can share a single pair of tracks. Maybe there is some other article that explains how all the NYC express trains work. If so fine. This article should link there. If not this article needs to explain this further. Super Express in the station listing?

Question: Even though its never on the schedule, due to it being special a post-game service, should the indication of its Super Express (making only 6 stops, terminating at Times Sq.) be mentioned in the station listings table? I want to have this discussion first before we decide on whether or not we should shade the special stops in the table, like with the A to Rockaway Park. I'm a bit indifferent on the matter. It normally doesn't happen, and because it's not scheduled and only occurs during special events, I personally don't see the need for it to be included. But I can be persuaded otherwise if anyone feels that they should. I only support changes in service to the articles if it affects service in anyway and if it's incorporated into the system pick. I do not think it should being that those trains do not follow a specific schedule or run every day. They run based on what time Mets game ends, so they are different from the rush hour services on other trains that follow schedules. Based on YouTube videos, the MTA also runs special trains between Yankee Stadium and 2nd Avenue on the Lower East Rider before and after Yankee games, but are we going to include that too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.2.255.159 (talk) 21:07, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

You bring up a very valid point. Not to mention with those Special D trains there's no telling where they'll go. Sometimes they go to Second Avenue, but a lot of times, more often than one, they'll operate via ANY routing in South Brooklyn that's connected to Sixth Avenue to get to Coney Island. —Imdanumber1 (talk · contribs · email) 21:38, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

I think we can include these Special 7 trains in the station listing, but we can't do the same with the Special D trains because of the latter's more randomized station listing. We just shade the special 7 train stops in the express service column. However, we don't need to since the prose explains the situation well enough. epicgenius (talk) 19:27, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
