Where is the 64th Air Expeditionary Group in Saudi Arabia? edit

The text claims that the 64th Air Expeditionary Group is located at Erskin Village, 20 km southeast of Riyadh. Scanning Google maps raises questions of whether any such unit could be stationed there, because its mission would seem to require airplanes and a runway that would be visible in the photographs; I saw none.

Also, I heard that the US withdrew most of its troops from Saudi Arabia to reduce the recruitment value those troops had for Al Qaeda. Leaving a unit that close to Riyadh -- and on the other side of Riyadh from the international airport -- would seem contrary to that rationale.

The narrative may be correct, but it sounds inconsistent with other things I've read. DavidMCEddy (talk) 16:27, 7 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

The 64th AEG is still at Eskan Village. It has no flight line and provides support for USMTM and OPM-SANG.  daintalk   12:51, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Then when did it move there? Although the 23 September 2005 activation date for the unit is correct, it was activated by Air Combat Command on that date at San Antionio, Texas and assigned to the 1st Aerospace Expeditionary Task Force and inactivated on 11 October 2005. This article is a total mess since the articles for the 64th Air Expeditionary Wing (converted to provisional status on 4 December 2001) the group were combined. They are different units and have been active at different times.--Lineagegeek (talk) 15:07, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Split edit

The two are not the same unit. --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:56, 16 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
