Improvements edit

This article could be improved by addressing the following:

  • Referencing: for a B class article there should be at least one in line citation per paragraph or block of information;
  • Coverage: this article needs to be expanded with more content - particularly in relation to the unit after amalgamation and its current status (role, structure and recent operations);
  • Supporting materials: an image or two would improve the quality of this article also.

I have done what I can in terms of content, however, I do not have enough sources to do much more to it. If anyone out there can help expand the article that would be great. Particular attention could be paid to the Current Status section, although the Amalgamation section needs work too.

A couple questions that I feel should be resolved and discussed in the article:

  • when did the unit move to Enoggera and what was its composition whilst there?
  • was the unit a Regular or CMF or integrated unit after Vietnam?
  • when did it move back to Townsville?

Just a few ideas. Sorry I can't help further expanding it. Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 07:10, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

@Anotherclown: G'day, mate, do you have any up-to-date information about this unit? Do you know what is happening with them under Beersheba? AustralianRupert (talk) 10:05, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Howdy I might have something for the immediate post-Vietnam era. Will check. Re Beersheba - I believe B 3/4 is going to become a reserve unit as part of 11 Bde. 1 AR will be the 1st Bde ACR, 2 CAV has moved to Tvle and will is now forming as the 3rd Bde ACR and 2/14 will be the 7 Bde ACR which of cse leaves B 3/4. I don't have a ref for any of that though. Anotherclown (talk) 10:41, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
The unit association has a fairly detailed history available here: [1]. Anotherclown (talk) 11:03, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Cheers, I've added a little bit from that. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 11:23, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Update edit

As some of you may be aware, this unit has been inactive since 2014 when the personnel, vehicles and facilities were transferred to 2 Cav Regt as a part of that Unit's move to 3 Bde under Plan Beersheba. This weekend, Saturday 8th September 2017, Support Squadron at the School of Armour is to be renamed B Sqn 3/4 Cav Regt. As soon as I can get some reliable sources I shall endeavour to make them available so this article can be updated. Cavalryman V31 (talk) 02:05, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

G'day Cavalryman V31. Thanks for this. I'm out of the loop now so was wondering what was going on with this unit. Does this mean B Sqn 3/4 Cav Regt will now be based at Puckapunyal? The last I heard the plan had been to make it a reserve unit based in Townsville but sounds like this may have changed. Anotherclown (talk) 23:51, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it will become a sub-unit of the School of Armour at Puckapunyal (or more acurately, a sub-unit of the School of Armour is being renamed B 3/4). Whilst there was some initial talk of raising another ARes unit in NE Qld under this name, that has progressed nowhere. Kind regards, Cavalryman V31 (talk) 01:08, 7 July 2017 (UTC).Reply

Apologies for the delayed response, the ADJT at the SOArmd forgot to invite Army News to the renaming parade in July so it has yet to receive any coverage, but the Head of Corps cell assures me the next edition of Ironsides will have extensive coverage about B 3/4, it is due to be released in January next year. Kind regards, Cavalryman V31 (talk) 00:32, 17 December 2017 (UTC).Reply

G'day, Cavalryman, thank you for your work on this; however, I have some concerns with the recent change. The change to the lead is probably too drastic, in my opinion, as it no longer provides an adequate summary of the article. Can you please try to expand the lead to summarise this more appropriately? Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 06:15, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
I was a little unsure how to tackle the lead, the Regiment no longer exists as an independent unit (or sub-unit), but instead is a sub-unit of the School. Do we say "the Regiment was" or "the Regiment is" a unit within the RAAC that exists today as a sub-unit of the School? Additionally, several of the statements in the old lead were not included in the main body and unsourced. Kind regards, Cavalryman V31 (talk) 07:12, 20 January 2018 (UTC).Reply
I have have expanded upon the lead, an RSM's input would be most welcome. Kind regards, Cavalryman V31 (talk) 09:53, 20 January 2018 (UTC).Reply
I can't claim to have ever carried a pace stick, but I'd say it looks ok (although I've had two beers so I might have missed something). Anotherclown (talk) 10:13, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Nor have I. The updated lead looks good to me, though, too. Thanks for this. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 14:46, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
