UGT/CCOO support

Spain's main labor unions argued that protests should be coordinated throughout Spain and asked Catalan members not to participate.

Every other major report mentions the UGT and CCOO as supporting the strike, but this NYT statement conflicts with other reporting. What sources clarify what the unions' regional vs. national offices said? czar 02:40, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Catalan general strike → 2017 Catalan general strike – as per WP:NCEVENTS (usual structure for titles of event articles being when/where/what) and WP:PRECISE. See the example of "1993 Russian constitutional crisis". The current title is neither stand-alone not unambiguous enough to be easily identifiable by itself, as general strikes may reoccur and "Catalan general strike" is not, by itself, a title immediately identifiable without the year. Adding to the confusion, consider the fact that Spanish-wide general strikes thus far did also take place in Catalonia, so this is not the only general strike in history to have happened in Catalan soil. Finally, keep in mind that this event is not (as of yet, at least) easily described without the year in historic perspective. The year would, thus be a useful identifier for the title, also making it precise enough to unambiguously define its topical scope. Impru20 (talk) 19:50, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

  • La Canadiense strike was a "Catalan general strike". A general strike was called amid the Tragic Week in 1909, which could be also dubbed as a "Catalan general strike". The 1988, 1994, 2002, 2010 or 2012 general strikes were also held in Catalonia, so they were also "Catalan general strikes". "Catalan general strike" is not, by itself, a title that easily identifies the topical scope of the article. General strikes occur and may reoccur, and unless the "where" is specific enough to unambiguously identify the topical scope of the article (i.e. "La Canadiense strike"), the "when" is also a must. I see "Catalan general strike" and I could think of any general strike happening in Catalan soil in the last 100 years, so it is not specific enough. "2017 Catalan general strike" is, however, precise enough, as no other general strike has been held in Catalonia in 2017. Impru20 (talk) 09:23, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Those events are known by other names, not confused as the "Catalan general strike"... but agreed (per below) that the common name will be more wait-and-see as news continues to unfold, so withdrawing my objection for now czar 23:58, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

• Comment from nom. A new Catalan general strike has just been called for 10 to 16 October (check source). So, it's not that "Catalan general strike" may be too ambiguous by itself, but maybe even "2017 Catalan general strike" could not be unambiguous enough now.
